Today’s song is from an utterly obscure, unknown film of the first decade of the talkie era – Kaun kisi ka-1939.

I have been writing posts on old films starting from the 1930s to the end of the 1960s, but I had not heard about this film till a few years back.

During the early era, very few films from the 1930’s are well known or atleast known, but most films remained unknown. Only the films made by well known film studios like Prabhat, Ranjit, Sagar, New Theatres, Minerva, Bombay Talkies etc are known to people.

Things do not get any more rare than this.  Plus celebrations like today’s, also do not get any more better and rare.

Milestones is a habit now long forgotten on this blog. No, I do not mean to say we do not celebrate. But it has now become a matter of routine. However, a milestone such as today, came to fore after a journey of more than 17 years. And that too – we can just bask in this glory for a few hours more. Night will fall, the sun will rise, and this milestone will be left behind – forever.

In five decades of recorded data (1931-80), there is an estimated approximation – about 45 thousand songs, give or take. Beyond that, another 45 years of an industry that I and more in my category have not tracked sincerely. But taking just a crude estimate, let us say, another 40 thousand songs. We are talking of a huge repository that is about 85 thousand songs. I am sure, it is a number that cannot be matched by any other segment of the industry world wide. And if I take a look at the counter on the top of this article, a whopping 20+ percent of that repository is already showcased on Atul-Song-a-Day.

A moment it takes to absorb this. Time to ruminate, to contemplate and to let this number sink in inside.

Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 95

Today I present to you a beautiful song from an obscure movie – “Kora Aanchal” (1973). However, imagine my surprise when I found a song from this film posted on the blog. Equally surprising was the reason why that particular song was posted by Atul Ji a little over two years ago. And the reason was that the song was about a donkey and it was posted on a World Donkey Day!! Funny, isn’t it?

My song today is “Rona Mera Naseeb Hai” sung by Asha Bhosle, written by Somesh Joshi and composed by Roshanlal Khatri.

“Koraa Aanchal”(1973) was directed by Somesh Joshi & V. Mhatre for ‘Mexico Films, Bombay’. The movie had had Dheeraj, Narendra Nath, Snehlata, Laxmi Chhaya, Joginder, Junior Mehmood, and others in it. Actress Veena made guest appearance in this movie.

Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 93

“Ek Kadvi Ek Meethi” by Asha Bhosle is from the movie “Kaanch Aur Heera” (1972). It was written and composed by Ravindra Jain. I think it was his first released film.

“Kaanch Aur Heera” (1972) was produced by Sudarshan Chitra and directed by Charandas Shokh. The lead actors were new to the industry, namely Pankaj and Shameem. Other in the cast were Rajan Haksar, Kamal Kapoor, Manmohan etc.

Today’s song is from a social film, with an intriguing title – Anban-1944.

Hindi film titles are sometimes funny and sometimes confusing. Funny, we can understand but confusing titles can cause problems. I can understand the same titles for films. There are hundreds of such examples. Same titled films can be found from 2 to 7 films. Yes. Film title ” Insaaf” was used for 7 films from 1937 to 1997 – one each in every decade !

When titles are similar but not exactly the same, they can still cause confusion. Here are some examples….. Aajkal and Aaj aur kal, Aarsi and Aarti, Shadi ke baad and Shadi se pehle, Agent 1-2-3, Agent 777 and Agent 999, Lagaan and Lagaam, Daanaa Paanee and Dana Pani etc etc.

Today’s film also falls in this category. There was a film called Aanbaan and this is Anban. For several years I was confused, but when I read in a Film magazine that this is Un-bun pronounced as “अन-बन ” (discord or rift in English), my confusion was cleared. (Aanbaan means dignity or pride in English).
