When one listens to old Bollywood songs, then one tends to form an idea about the actor on whom the song must have been picturised. If the movie has a song sung by say Rafi, then one expects it to be sung by the hero of the movie.

This song “ghareeb jaan ke na tum haman mita dena” from “Chhoomantar” (1956) is one song from this movie that is well known to me for the last thirty years. This song is one of those songs that I had noted down in my diary of 1970s in which I used to note down the songs that I liked those days.

“Chhoomantar” (1956) was a movie in which Johny Walker was the hero. I have realised that this movie had some nice songs composed by O P Nayyar and I have in fact posted quite a few songs from this movie already.

“Ham Sab Chor Hain” (1955) is a movie of historical significance because here one can see many would be legends in action during their earlier days. For instance, it was one of the first movies as a music director for O P Nayyar. It is in movies like this that he began to groom Asha Bhonsle and gave her voice an identity.

Chandaniya nadiya beech nahaaye

When I had started this blog with the aim of posting old classic songs, I had assessed that if I posted about 2500 songs, I would have covered them all. How wrong I was ! I have already posted over 2000 songs, and I still continue to stumble upon “new” songs almost every day. And I still feel like I am only scratching the surface. I have yet to go deeper.
