There are people who like to go to party. What exactly do they do in the party ? If they are like the party goers in Bollywood songs, most of them just stand like statues when the hero is hogging the limelight, singing a song. Except hero, everyone else seems discomfited. Even the heroine is not at ease, because the contents of the song are either praising her or cursing her, and in either case, she feels mightily embarrassed.

But there are some songs that talk about more important facts of life, about the philosophy behind our existence etc. Such songs tend to tug at our heart strings and influence us deeply. Such songs tend to remain with us for ages, as the messages contained in such songs are applicable for all times to come.

This song from “Baat ek raat ki” (1962) is regarded as a Hemant Kumar classic. This song is picturised on Dev Anand and Waheeda Rahman. Technically this song should be called a duet because Suman Kalyanpur’s voice is also there,singing for Waheeda Rahman, but she sings hardly one line or two.
