“Mr X in Bombay” (1964) was the first movie where Laxmikant Pyarelal and Kishore Kumar worked together for the first time, and the result was some outstanding music. The fact that Kishore Kumar acted in the movie certainly helped.

Here is another popular song of its day which I thought I had already posted, but it is easy to get one’s facts wrong when there are so many nice songs to be posted. I have posted several songs of this genre as well as from this movie but this song was so far left out.

Long ago, when I was a school kid, I was an avid radio listener. One of the radio programmes that I regularly listened to was “Vishesh Jaimala” broadcast on saturday evening (and repeated on sunday afternoon). This programme was presented by a celebrity from Bollywood, but sometimes celebrities from other fields were also invited to present the programme.

I have mentioned in the past that the Bollywood movies of the past used to have their get togethers not in hotels, but in their palatial houses that every hero/ heroine used to possess. Their palatial house used to have a big hall for the purpose of these get together. And in these occasions, the hero/ heroine was required to sing a song. A grand piano was kept in the hall near the big staircase (that led to the upper floor)for the purpose of this song. The hero/ heroine, after initial nakhra, would get seated on the piano and then sing a song accompanied by music. The music incidentally would bear little resemblence to the music that normally comes out of a grand piano.

In my bid to clear the backlog of my old farmaishes, here is one song whose farmaish was given more than one year back. This song is from “Suhaagan” (1964). This song is a duet sung by Lata and Manna Dey. Madan Mohan is the music director. Madan Mohan teamed up with Raja Mehdi Ali Khan and Rajinder Krishan in most of his movies and on the other hand he rarely worked with the leading names (Shailendra, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Sahir Ludhianvi and Hasrat Jaipuri). But in this movie, he worked with Hasrat Jaipuri. And what superb lyrics Hasrat Jaipuri came up with in this movie !

When it comes to remembering important dates, I am quite forgetful and absent minded. The only important date in my family that I never forget is my daughter’s birthday, because she looks forward to it from many days in advance. Other than that, details like my wife’s birthday, our wedding anniversary etc are dates that I always forget, much to the chagrin of my wife.

I have listened to this song in the past and liked it too, but all this while I was totally ignorant about the details of this song. The only thing I knew about this song is that the song is sung by Rafi.
