I have mentioned in the past that the Bollywood movies of the past used to have their get togethers not in hotels, but in their palatial houses that every hero/ heroine used to possess. Their palatial house used to have a big hall for the purpose of these get together. And in these occasions, the hero/ heroine was required to sing a song. A grand piano was kept in the hall near the big staircase (that led to the upper floor)for the purpose of this song. The hero/ heroine, after initial nakhra, would get seated on the piano and then sing a song accompanied by music. The music incidentally would bear little resemblence to the music that normally comes out of a grand piano.

Here is a song from “Punar Milan” (1964). “Punar Milan” (1964) was a B grade movie and the makers of this movie saved money as far as hiring artists was concerned. Considering the talent available on the music scene, hiring talented out of work music director was not a problem, but hiring a lesser actor like Jagdeep as the hero of this movie proved counter productive.

In my bid to clear the backlog of my old farmaishes, here is one song whose farmaish was given more than one year back. This song is from “Suhaagan” (1964). This song is a duet sung by Lata and Manna Dey. Madan Mohan is the music director. Madan Mohan teamed up with Raja Mehdi Ali Khan and Rajinder Krishan in most of his movies and on the other hand he rarely worked with the leading names (Shailendra, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Sahir Ludhianvi and Hasrat Jaipuri). But in this movie, he worked with Hasrat Jaipuri. And what superb lyrics Hasrat Jaipuri came up with in this movie !

One normally associates Ghazals and serious songs with Madan Mohan, but that does not mean that Madan Mohan could not create other kinds of songs, including light hearted songs. One certainly does not associate a Helen-Asha Bhonsle party song with Madan Mohan, but here is one such song.
