“Around The world” (1967) which is an abbreviation of “Around the world in eight dollars” was basically a movie where Raj Kapoor and Jayshree are seen going on a world tour. Most tourists go to their destinations to watch those places and soak in the atmosphere there, whereas our lead actors go there to sing songs. 😀

Today is second october, which is an important day in India. It was on this day that Mahatma Gandhi, regarded as father of the nation, was born in 1869. Another important leader, Lal Bahadur Shashtri, was also born on the same day in 1904.

If there was a Shammi Kapoor starrer called “an Evening in Paris” (1966) then the me too producers could be counted upon to come up with a product with similar sounding title. And they came up with “Night in London” (1967) starring Vishwajeet (poor man’s Shammi Kapoor) and Mala Sinha.

In Hindi movies we often seen family album masquerading as a movie (viz the movie “Kal Aaj Aur Kal”), or a wedding album masquerading as a movie (” Hum Apke Hai Kaun”). Likewise they was a world tour album that masqueraded as a Hindi movie. This movie was called “Around the world in eight days”, which was shortened to “Around the world”.

“Milan” (1967) was full of wonderful songs in it. The popularity of its songs during the heydays of this movie was to be seen to be believed. Personally I was a very young and impressionable kid who loved listening to the songs of this movie at that time. As for watching the movie, I finally watched the movie only in 1980s, which is not the same as watching this movie when it was first released.

“Milan” (1967) was a musical blockbuster. I remember its songs being all over the place when I was a very young kid. As a kid, I would have dearly loved to see this movie, but those days many parents rationalised that watching movies was bad for kids. There is nothing new in that. Every pleasurable activity known to mankind is always regarded as bad/illegal/immoral etc by authorities and therefore discouraged since time immemorial.

I have talked about “teasing” songs in Bollywood movies. In these songs, the boy typically would tease a girl outdoors. But I just realised that this teasing can take place even indoors, and that too in the presence of others. Yes, get together songs offer an ideal opportunity to the boy to tease the girl in full public glare.
