One thing about life that amazes me is its unpredictability. Let me explain. See when I got the email from Sudhirji in April 2014 informing me about the approaching 10K milestone I had decided to send as many songs as possible to Atul for reaching 10000 as soon as possible. And in right earnest I sent 4 songs over a week in my (personal) “March unto 10000” mission. And I must say Atul was good to me by posting all of them instantly. Then came my unexpected tour of Delhi; and I took a break from my list of romantic songs and sent a Delhi based song. This is one incident that proves that we plan something and we end up doing something else.

Few months back (on 13th May 2016) there was a comment by Anekant ji on this song ‘laayi kahaan hai zindagi’ (Taxie-Taxie 1977). Reading the title ‘laayi kahaan hai zindagi’ of his song post reminded me of a Kishore Kumar song – ‘toone hame kya diya ree zindagi’.

“Gharaana”(1961) was directed by S S Vasan for Gemini Pictures, Madras. The movie had Rajendra Kumar, Asha Parekh, Raj Kumar, Devika, Minu Mumtaz, Bipin Gupta, Lalita Pawar, Agha, Shubha Khote, Kanhaiya Lal, Krishna Kumari, Vijay Laxmi, Randhir, Moppat Rauja etc in it.

Music Director Shyam Sharma, a regular employee with HMV (later on, RPG) had in 1970 recorded an Album named “Swar Bahar” that had ten melodious devotional songs by Suman Kalyanpur. Six out of these ten have now been covered in this wonderful singing Blog. This one is the seventh jewel from that Album.

A sad event that did not seem to gather much attention, occurred on Tuesday, 29th December, 2015. Legendary singer Subir Sen breathed his last in Calcutta (Kolkata). He was 81-years-old. The lovers of film music will remember him for his renditions in many Hindi and Bangla films.

Today (5 january 2016) is the death anniversary of C Ramchandra (12 january 1918- 5 january 1982). One of his songs has already been discussed today and we will try to discuss some more of his compositions today as a tribute to him.

Genius of Jaidev – 39

It took me A YEAR to present this post today, after the last post ‘Genius of Jaidev – 38’, which appeared on this Blog on December 19th, 2015. After posting two songs by Mangeshkars from 1969 film ‘Sapna’, I have now a solo by Manna Dey. Not having seen the film my guess is that this song must have been picturised on the hero of the film, trying to move away from whatever situation he found himself, in a very dejected state.
