Nowadays, it’s very rare to come across a Rafi Saab’s solo which is not already posted here on the blog. So it came as a huge surprise that this song “Jaane Kahan Gaye Tum” sung by Mohd. Rafi Saab, penned by MK Javed (Manohar Khanna – Usha Khanna’s father) and composed by Usha Khanna, was not yet covered on this blog.
This song is from a C grade flop movie called “Aa Jaa Sanam” released in 1975.
The movie was directed & written by Yusuf Naqvi for producer S. A. Mahmood. The Music Director was Usha Khanna and there were three lyricists – Indeevar, M. K. Javed, Kafil Azar.

‘Daasi’ (1981) was produced by Subhash Verma and was directed by Raj Khosla. The cast included Sanjeev Kumar, Rekha, Moushumi Chatterjee, Rakesh Roshan, Vikram, Paintal, Radhika Bartake, Sidharth Kak, Dhumal, Leela Mishra, Sundar, Narbada Shankar, Anita Advani etc.
The film was planned in 1976 based on a Hindi novel, ‘Mangala’ (1958) written by Anant Gopal Shevde. The main plank of the story in the novel is that Mangala goes through a deceitful arranged marriage with a blind singer, Pandit Sadananda. As a revenge, she rebels against the marriage by seducing her husband’s best friend and finally eloping with him. In the end, Mangala returns to her husband, Pandit Sadananda and becomes a vocalist under his tutelage. However, during the film’s planning stage, the producer and distributors felt that the plot was too bold and the audience may not accept it. Raj Khosla majorly tweaked the story of the novel for the film by making the husband’s friend (Rakesh Roshan) as her ex-lover and making him a grey character. Today’s song is a Qawwali from the film Hurricane Hansa-1937.
The Indian film industry was still in its childhood in 1937. It had been just 6 years since the first Talkie film was made in India. The initial years were of experimentation. The filmmakers were trying various topics in their films.
Indian audiences may be from different states and languages, but Mythological and Stunt films were common favourites all over India. From the first decade when the first silent movies were made till the 1960s, these two genres continued unabated.
Most of us like to see films, be it on a TV, in a cinema hall, or through DVD. Some like old films, some like new films. This post is in memory of legendary singer Mukesh on his Remembrance Day (22 July 1923 to 27 August 1976).
The post is also in memory of arguably Mukesh’s greatest fan and compiler of Mukesh Geet Kosh, Shri Harish Raghuwanshi ji(15 October 1949 to 27 August 2024), who passed away on the same day and month last year (on 27 August 2024).
At the outset, as I pen down my 100th post on this unique blog, I take the opportunity to express my heartfelt and sincere thanks to Atul ji for providing this platform on a platter for Hindi Film Music aficionados to not only contribute thoughts on films and songs but also flex flairs for writing.
Today’s song in memory of Mukesh and Harish ji is easily available but is unique in the sense that the details about the making of this song are not available in public domain.
