In Hindi movies, any situation is good enough situation for bursting into a song. I have seen actors singing a song while on a death bed, or while they are fighting. They sing when sad, and they also sing when they are happy. Social occasions means lots of songs. They in fact also sing when they are travelling, be it by a bullock cart,chariot, tonga,rickshaw,bicycle,car or train.

I have mentioned it that I know very little about the movies and actors that came before late 1940s. For instance, I have very little knowledge about this movie called “Daasi” (1944). As the name of the movie suggests, this movie has to be about a woman suffering at the hand of her husband. But that is all the knowledge I have. Then I have the songs of this movie to go by.

I have covered nearly 40 % of all the songs that he composed in Hindi movies and finding the remaining songs is becoming a tall order as they are all rare songs, not easil available. Sajjad Hussain made his debut an an independent music director with “Dost”(1944). With the passage of so much time, very little is known about this movie today. What is known is that this movie had actors like Noorjahan, Vatsala Kumthekar, Motilal, Husnbano, Maya Banerjee, Kanhaiyalal etc in it.
