Yesterday, I had posted the song “Tumhen Dil Se Jaane Nahin Denge Hum” from the 1945 film ‘Sanyaasi’. The song came at the request of Sikander Esmail Sb who currently resides in the USA. Yesterday morning Atul ji had
forwarded to me an email from Sikander Sb, wherein he has requested for three songs from the 1940s that he is trying to locate. There are some wonderful memories of some departed friends associated with these songs.

This is the second song of my trio of tribute to Mohammed Rafi sahab on the occassion of his 33rd Death Anniversary.

This song is chosen for its beginning with the alphabet ‘B’. It is a solo song from the obscure film called ‘Ghoonghat”(1946). There is no information on the imdb website about this film.

“Shama” (1946) was produced by Sohrab Modi and directed by Sibtain Fazli. The movie had Mehtab, Chanda Bai, Sadat Ali, Ameer Banu etc in it. The movie had music by Ghulam Haider.

Interestingly, another movie of the same name was released in 1961 too. This movie had Suraiyya, Kumud Tripathi, Nimmi, Vijay Dutt etc in it. This movie had music by Ghulam Mohammad !

“Khamosh Nigaahen”(1946) is as obscure a movie as any. Hardly any information is available about this movie. Some vague information available about this movie suggest that it was produced by Roop K Shorey and directed by Moti B Gidwani. This movie had Pran, Manorama, Al Nasir, Subhashini, Zahoor Shah etc in it.

For the first time after twenty years of its inception, this prestigious award that represents a lifetime of significant contribution to the Indian cinema, is announced for a lyricist. Ah, finally. I have with me now, the song from the 1946 film ‘Durbaan’ that has been eluding me so far. Graciously and thankfully sent to me by another collector friend. Readers will recall that this is the one song from 1946, still waiting to be posted, as we traverse the early years of Mukesh’s career. As per records, by the end of 1946, Mukesh had sung 21 songs in eleven films (starting from 1941).

ARABIAN NIGHTS-1946 was a ” Triveni Sangam ” of artists from Bengal in a Bombay film. Kanan Devi, Kamal Dasgupta and Faiyaz Hashmi came together to make music for this Fantasy film. This film,incidentally, is also making its debut on this Blog.
