While looking for some other songs to discuss, I have come across this wonderful song about which I knew nothing. This song is from a forgotten movie called “Ek Do Teen” (1953). This movie had Motilal,Meena Shorey,Om Prakash,Indira Bansal,Majnu, Yashodhara etc in it.

I have so far discussed songs from 67 movies in which Madan Mohan composed movies. It means that as many as 25 movies with Madan Mohan’s music are still to get covered in this blog.

“Naghmaa” (1953) is a movie about which very little is known. The video of its songs are apparently not available so we only have audio of songs of this movie. I have so far discussed two songs from this movie.

I am aware of a movie called “Laila Majnu” that was released in 1970s. But there was another movie of this name that was released in 1953. Here is a song from “Laila Majnu” (1953).

Here is a song from “Naghma” (1953). Only the audio of this song is available so it is difficult to tell who the actor was on whom this song was picturised. For that matter I find it difficult to say who the singer is. All sources describe the voice as Shamshad Begam’s though the voice sounds rather different to me. Can anyone confirm/correct who the singer could be ?

In Hindi movies, lyrics tended to be laden with Urdu words mainly because the major lyricists of that time were more comfortable with Urdu words than Sanskrit origin Hindi words. The plea was that simple words were needed for the movies. Ironically, the words used in Hindi movie songs were not really common man’s words for those whose mother tongue was Hindi. So Hindi speakers had difficulty understanding many words in Hindi movies.
