We in this blog celebrate all important musical landmarks that we reach. This writeup was supposed to celebrate a major landmark namely the 500th song of Naushad as a music director in this blog. It turns out that my calculation was long and Naushad had reached his 500 mark a few days ago in a writeup that I erroneously counted as 499th song for him. Nevertheless, I will use this 501th Naushad song as an opportunity to discuss the details of his songs composed during his 64 years long career.

“Hongkong”(1962) was directed by Paachhi. The movie had Ashok Kumar, B. Saroja Devi, K. N. Singh, Om Prakash, Helen, Babu Rao, King Kong (wrestler) etc in it.
Here is a song from “Hongkong”(1962). This song was sung by Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised as a club dance song on a female dancer whom I am unable to identify. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song and the identification of the dancer.
Shewan Rizvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.

Song-Muhabbat karnewaala muft mein badnaam hota hai(Hongkong)(1962) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics- Shewan Rizvi, MD-O P Nayyar
Lyrics
muhabbat karne waala
muhabbat karne waala muft mein badnaam hota hai
muhabbat karne waala muft mein badnaam hota hai
ye bholi shakl waale kis kadar maasoom hote hain
bade hi seedhe saadhe nek dil maaloom hote hain
koyi surat nahin aisi ki chori inki khul jaaye
agar ilzaam bhi aaye to inpar kis tarah aaye
zabaan khaamosh rehti hai nazar se kaam hota hai
muhabbat karnewaala
muhabbat karnewaala
muft mein badnaam hota hai
kare koyi bhare koyi
zara kanoon to dekho
samajh mein hi nahin aata hai kuch majmoon toh dekho
khataayen aapki lekin saza hum begunaahon ko
nazar hum rokte hain
aap bhi roken nigaahon ko
ishaaren aap karte hain
hamaara naam hota hai
muhabbat karnewaala
muhabbat karnewaala
muft mein badnaam hota hai
jahaan par husn hota hai najar khud thahar jaati hai
kadam yaadon ka dam tak saath chalkar laut aati hai
zara sa dekh lene par qayaamat sar pe aayi hai
agar hamne tumhen dekha toh ismein kya buraai hai
usi ko dekhte hain sab jo jalwa aam hota hai
muhabbat karne waala
muhabbat karne waala muft mein badnaam hota hai
muhabbat isko kehte hain
kabhi shola kabhi shabnam
kabhi dil se dhuaan uthha
kabhi aankhen huyin purnam
mayassar jab nahin hoti hamen
dildaar se baaten
to raaton ko kiya karte hain ham deewaar se baaten
kisi se pyaar karne ka yahi anjaam hota hai
muhabbat karne waala
muhabbat karne waala
muft mein badnaam hota hai
muhabbat karne wala
muft mein badnaam hota hai ae

First came “Mother India”(1957) and then came “Son Of India”(1962). Both were produced by Mehboob Khan. Title role in Mother India was played by Nargis whereas the titkle role in “Son of India” was played by Sajid Khan. This Sajid Khan is different from the Sajid Khan that we are familiar with. This Sajid Khan was an adopted son of Mehboob Khan and he acted not only in “Son of India”(1962) but in “Mother India”(1957) as well, playing child version of Sunil Dutt in “Mother India”(1957).
