“Kan Kan Mein Bhagwaan” (1963) was a mythological movie, and as such movies went, it was a B grade movie. Few people remember this movie or its songs, but I find that the songs of this movie were as good as the music of any A grade movie.

Maazandaraan Maazandaraan

I became aware of this song only recently when I read a review of “Rustam Sohrab” (1963) at MemsaabStory . The Prince of Turannak hatches a plot to Kidnap the Shah of Iran at the behest of the king of Mazandaraan. The prince goes to Shah’s court disguised as a poet and sings praises of Mazandaraan. The song suitably impresses the Shah and he, throwing cautions to the winds , accompanies the disguised prince to Mazandaraan. Here he is suitably underwhelmed to find that the promised land was nothing but desert. To add insult to injury, he is kidnapped too.

“Akeli Mat Jaiyyo” (1963) was one of those movies that failed at the box office despite boasting of names like Rajendra “Jubilee” Kumar and Meena Kumari. Madan Mohan yet again had the mortification of watching his music go down the drain because his songs from this movie failed to take off as a result of the failure of this movie.
