A Shammi Kapoor song is always the quintessential Shammi Kapoor song. With very little apparent effort and with minimum movements, the amount of expression and energy that this powerhouse actor is able to pack into the edifice of a single song, it is simply amazing. The tiny twitches of the neck, the small movements of the fingers and the hands, the rolling and shifting eyes – small signals that are able to communicate a whole nine yard story.

Here now is the fourth and final song from the film ‘Sannata’. Earlier this year, in June, when I had started posting the songs from this film, I did not realize it will be almost six months by the time all the songs will be posted. Just four songs. A song awaiting to be posted for some time. One of the drafts that I lost a few weeks back when my computer had crashed. And now, here it is. A remarkable haunting melody, from the same composer who conjured up the refrain for “Kahin Deep Jaley Kahin Dil”. Maybe a lesser known and less often heard creation, nonetheless a melody that, once heard, will surely continue to echo through the corridors of the mind. When I had posted the song “Koi Bechaara. . .”, Derubala ji had specifically responded with a comment picking out this song as a favorite.

While talking of a movie called “Dillagi”, The only movie of this name that I was aware of during my teenage days was “Dillagi” (1978), which was a Basu Chatterjee directed romantic comedy movie starring Dharmendra and Hema Malini.
