Hullo atulites
I just returned from work and saw that we have a post for remembering Jaidev on his death anniversary. But none to wish the AR Rahman on his birthday today. So I thought let me do my bit. So here is a song from the 1992 “Roja” starring Madhu, Arvind Swamy, Pankaj Kapoor etc. This I had seen when my son was a little boy in arms and we were living in this tiny township in Tamil Nadu. The waterfall shown in the movie is in hills that were right behind our mill colony there. And I have visited it a few times in my 5 year stay there. Also today happens to be my son’s 25th birthday. All together a day of nostalgia. So I think this song fits the occasion as far as I am concerned.

SONGS FROM ARTISTE NAME FILMS…..Song No. 8
————————————————
Today’s song is from film Zubeidaa-2000. It is sung by Alka Yagnik and the MD is A R Rahman.
Zubeidaa was a film (one of the only 2 such films in India ), made on the life of actress Zubeida, who operated during 1937 to 1949. This Zubeida is NOT the Alam Ara fame Zubeida. That Zubeida had left films in 1935,after marrying a very rich Jahagirdar-Raja Dhanraj Gir ji from Hyderabad (Deccan).

Atul Song-A-Day 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 7
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
It is an honor to participate in the celebrations of reaching a great milestone on Atul’s blog. As we know we are close to completing the 10000th post. I am quite sure this concept of posting songs as a collaboration is quite unique to this blog. Unique or not, I like the feeling of being with a family of people who share such similar tastes in music and trivia about music. Congratulations to all of us for this important landmark.

I am not a great travelogue writer, though my husband is always after me to write something about the various trips we undertake. But this time I am going to try my hand at describing a trip I went for in the first few days of May. To accomplish that I have decided to take a break from my list of romantic songs (in my march onto 10000) and write about a lovely encounter with a known unknown person who is a friend for the last 5- 6 years without ever having met.

So the song which I have chosen today is from a very recent (going by the unwritten standards of our blog) bollywood movie though the movie itself had its story based in Pre independence India. It showed how the common folk reacted to the Hindu Muslim tensions back then. Even feelings as tender as love was given a kick when it came to religious sentiments. (At least that is what all the movies that are placed in that period depict. Sometimes I feel that thank god we were not born back then. But then I do not think we are living any differently even now in the 2000s, are we?) But lets not get into all that and focus on the song itself.

The film Sapnay(1997), was dubbed from a TeleguTamil Film named “minsaara Kanavu”. I found this while looking for information about the story etc. here. I have seen this movie, maybe once or maybe in parts. I remembered a part of the story and songs, which were very melodious. The song “Chanda re chanda re” is a favourite with me for many reasons. First is the melody, which makes it such a hummable song. I especially like the interlude music, which makes Kajol respond and start singing with Prabhu Deva. And the way it is picturized next to an ‘urban pond’ with slum dwellers living around it. And the most important factor of all is Prabhu Deva’s choreography and dance, and the non-serious way he is treating the whole thing. I am guessing Prabhu Deva is the choreographer here, as he is a choreographer first than a dancer, then an actor turned action director to full fledge Film Director, when last heard.

As mentioned earlier, I have been discovering that some of the best Holi songs were created after 1980, which comes as a pleasant surprise to me.
