Hullo Atuldom

30th March marks 24 years since Anand Bakshi bid goodbye to this mortal world. He was all of 72 then. In the 45 years that he was active in the Hindi film industry he had worked with nearly 95-100 music directors (as per google) beginning with “Silver King” (1957) which had music by Sudipta (knowledgeable Atulites, please confirm if this music director is same as Sudipta Bhattacharya) & “Bhala Aadmi” (1958) with music by Nisar Bazmi; Bakshisaab first wrote for ‘Bhala Aadmi’ but ‘Silver King’ released first is what I discovered on google as I sat to write this post.

#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #
————————————————

Today’s song is from the film ‘Maine Jeenaa Seekh Liyaa-1959’. I came across this movie title while browsing the ‘List-of-songs-moviewise’ on the blog during my regular browsing on the blog.

Music of this movie is composed by the genius music composer Roshan. Only two of its songs are posted on this blog. Out of curiosity, I looked at the remaining songs of this movie. I do not remember to have listened to the songs associated with this title. I was only aware of same movie title from the year 1982. I will take up the songs of this same name of eighties later.

‘Maine Jeenaa Seekh Liyaa-1959’ was a social movie which was directed by Satish Nigam for ‘Filmistan Limited, Bombay’. It was passed by the Censor Board on 10.12.1959. The cast of this movie had Ameeta, Ravindra Kapoor, Durga Khote, P. Kailash, Badri Prasad, Agha, Savita Chatterjee, Lata, Sushil Kumar, Murad, Noorjahan, Narbada Shankar, Tiger (Dog), Munshi Khanjar and others.

The film is produced under the banner of Mansarover Pictures, Bombay and is directed by BK Dubey. The film is supposedly a tale of rebirth and memories of soul, presented as a ghost/apparition story. “Hero”(1983) was produced and directed by Subhash Ghai for Mukta Arts Limited, Bombay. This movie was the usual love story featuring newcomer lead pair supported by distinguished whose who of support cast.

“Hero” (1983) was not the first such movie of those days. The trend was started by “Bobby”(1973) one decade ago and was then followed by “Love Story”(1980), “Rocky”(1981) and “Betaab”(1983).

I heard this song today after ages and when I checked the blog, it wasn’t posted as yet, although the rest of the four songs out of five, were posted. So with this post, all the songs are covered making the movie Yippeed.

Today’s song “Ek Jhonka Pawan Ka Aaya” is sung by Lata Mangeshkar, written by Anand Bakshi and composed by Kalyanji Anandji. It is from the movie “Tamanna” (1969).

“Tamanna”(1969) was directed by K P Atma for K S Pictures, Bombay. This “social” movie had Mala Sinha, Biswajeet, Shashikala, Agha, Nazima, Deven Verma, Nazeer Hussain, Sulochana, Sajjan, Achla Sachdev, Asit Sen etc in it.

#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
———————————————————————

Today’s song is a nice composition from the movie ‘Daku Mangal Singh-1966’. Lyrics for this song were sent by Prakashchandra long back. Listeni8ng to songs like this (that I had not heard before), I am beginning to realise that apart from the songs that we grw up listening to (that we fondly remember), there many be thousands of songs that we could never listen to. Seing that most of these songs belonged to obscure movies, it is unlikely that music lovers will ever listen to these forgotten songs.

Today’s song is from a social film Hum Ek Hain-1969.

There were 3 films having this same title. They were made in 1946, 1969 and 1982. Like the same name confusion of artists, even the film titles of same name can cause confusion. This can be seen clearly if you see such films’ songs on Youtube. Well known music company SAREGAMA is well known for such confusion. When I was searching for a song from today’s film, I found a song, but it was labelled as from the film Hum Ek Hain-1946. Even photos from the 1946 film of the same title were shown on the song audio. Since the song’s mukhada and the singers’ names were as mentioned in HFGK for the 1969 song, I heard the entire song and confirmed from the lyrics that actually it was from the film Hum ek hain-1969.

This is the reason I tell people to ensure mentioning the correct year of the film along with the title, to avoid such confusion.

“Suhaag” (1979) was a film produced by Rajinder Kumar Sharma, Ramesh Sharma, Shakti Subhash Sharma, Prakash Trehan and directed by Manmohan Desai. The story writer was Prayag Raj, K.K. Shukla was the screenplay writer & the dialogues carried the trademark of Kadar Khan – every dialogue in the film matched the mood that Manji (as Manmohan Desai was fondly addressed by his friends & admirers) envisioned for his films. Laxmikant-Pyarelal were the music directors for songs that were written by Anand Bakshi. Shailendra Singh, Mohd Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Anwar were the playback singers used for the songs. The song ‘main toh beghar hoon’ had Shashi Kapoor mouth a few words, hence he is also credited in the list of playback singers.
