The last “Sarfaroshi ki tamanna” posted in the blog is this. That’s the ARR composition of the famous ghazal by Bismil Azimabadi.
ARR has one more composition of the same ghazal yet to be posted in the blog. I am planning to post that also in due time.
I know I have said this before too, that the relevance of Urdu poetry is a growing force, in our world. It is taken to one level by the connoisseurs, who treat it with reverence. And it has the vivacity to make a commoner want to reach out and learn the nuances of Urdu. People who have no connection or inclination towards classical poetry of any genre or language, are known to have “Takiya kalam” in Urdu. It is not just the poetry that has survived the test of time, it is the idioms and phrases, rooted in the culture of the society, the gunga-jamuni Tehzeeb and the ‘Mu’atabar” sounds, which made Gulzar say:

#the Decade of – 2000 – 2010 #

During the travels that I had in recent months, I had a trip to north. It included visiting Dalhousie, Dharamshala, and the tourist spots near to these places. The last leg of our trip was visiting Amritsar. We had planned to visit the Jalianwaala Bagh Memorial, Golden Temple and the Wagah Border. On 16th April 2023 morning we started from Dharamshala for Amritsar. Since we got late in the morning we reached Amritsar around three o’ clock in the afternoon. We straightway visited the Jalianwaala Bagh Memorial first and from there decided to go to Wagah Border first as the time for beating retreat ceremony was getting closer. So we thought that after the visit to the border we would be visiting the Golden Temple in the evening later.

Today 23rd March 2021 is the ninetieth remembrance anniversary of martyr dome of Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. They were hanged to death by the British regime on 23rd March 1931.
On this occasion as a tribute in remembrance of these great sons of this soil here is a song from the movie ‘23rd March 1931 Shaheed’ (2002).

Happy Independence Day
15th August- a very very important day in the life of any Indian. The day we are thankful to our predecessors who laid down their lives for getting us freedom from foreign rule.
Predecessors includes even those unnamed freedom fighters who walked along with the leaders of those times. It includes those who did not like to be ordered around by people who didn’t have an iota of understanding why India was the way it was.
