The cast included Bharti, Pramendra, Anupama, Krishnakant, Nazeer Hussain, Sulochana Chatterjee, Mumtaz Begum, Manmohan, Mac Mohan, Iftikhar etc. It was a remake of C V Sridhar’s Tamil film, ‘Avalukendru oru Manam’ (1971). Bharti was the only common actor in both the versions. While, the Tamil version was a box office hit, the Hindi version did not attain the same status on the box office.

Mukesh and his Actors – 06

Navin Nischol was amongst the new breed of actors to grace the silver screen from the early 70’s. He made his debut with the film Sawan Bhadon (1970) in which he was paired with none other than Rekha who was also making her debut in Hindi films.

His popular films and even more popular songs are well known. Without going into the details of his films and his successful foray into television media, I direct readers to his wiki page where ample details are provided.

In this post, we shall deal with Mukesh’s playback for Navin Nischol. There are only 3 films in which Mukesh sang a total of 5 songs for him. Here is the table of their collaboration.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Kaamnaa’ (1972). I had never heard of this movie earlier. I became aware of this movie only through HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980).

” DIVE INTO A GOOD BOOK ”

The picture shows one of the scenes of my dream we all know that the weirdest things in this world are dreams. Before this dream I read a book – ‘The midnight theft’. The name sounds good but the contents was just horrible. Now the question comes that if I found the book was such, then why did I go on to read the whole book. Actually it is my habit or I do not know what but I have a tendency to complete things which I have started.

(1973 – Duet)

The duet selection for 1973 is composed by an old time stalwart – OP Nayyar. The music from the film ‘Taxi Driver’ made quite a splash on the radio waves, when it was released, especially the Krishan Kalle number “Pyaar Karte Ho Yaar, Karke Darte Ho Yaar” and the peppy Asha Bhosle number “Baalam Harjaai, Jaa Main To Aankh Milaa Pachhtaai”. This duet was also famously heard on the radio frequently.

Recently I wrote up a 1970s song here and today I’m presenting another 1970s song.

I know that by the standards of this blog, the 1970s is a fairly recent decade. Most of the songs here are from an earlier period – and I love this because it gives me an opportunity to listen to, and learn about, so many forgotten gems of an earlier era. I will never forget the thrill I got when I heard “halla gulla lai la (Dholak – 1951)” for the first time – it has since become one of my FAVOURITE songs! Actually I’d always been interested in old songs but thanks to the internet and this blog, my interest has not only been encouraged, it has also been sharpened in the last few years.

I had mentioned that I was temporarily at a place where internet and for that matter even electricity was not guaranteed. Now,after pointing the fact out to the powers be, I find that the things are much better. Electricity is avaialble, because the generator set is being switched on in case of no electicity while earlier, people were too lazy to switch on the gen set, which is an essential item in these parts.

This song starts with a car moving in a road, with four people sitting in it. Good, so it is a car song, I think.

But for the rest of the song, the car remains parked. The four of them have come for a picnic. We see Shashikala, holding a picnic basket in one hand, singing this song, to no one is particular. Others have assembled there for picnic, but she seems to have gone there to sing this song. 😀 I see that her colleagues include Dharmendra, but he keeps a low profile throughout this song.
