From the above table we can see that a total forty-six movies were released during this period of – September’1971 to December’1971.
Out of these forty-six movies mentioned above, two movies were songless movies. And on the blog, we have launched forty-one movies.
Out of these forty-one movies seventeen movies have already been covered for all songs from them and they have been Yippeeee’ed on the blog.

Three movies viz.’ Agent 999* (C.I.D. Agent 999*, Operation Jackpot)’, ‘Nanheen Kaliyaan’ and ‘Revolver Raani’ have yet to make a debut on the blog. As of now, the song from these movies seems to be not available.

(we will be taking a final view on the year ‘1971’ in another post to be presented soon on the blog 😊 That also gives an opportunity for one more song from ‘1971’ too 😊

For today’s post I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Saaz Aur Sanam-1971’. As we can see from above list there are as many as ‘twenty-four’ movies available where we can select a song from. However, I was looking for a ‘different’ song and one that is a lesser known. I think the song I have selected fulfils the condition 😊

‘Saaz Aur Sanam-1971’ was directed by J.B.H. Wadia for ‘Wadia Movieton, Bombay’.

It had Rekha, Premendra, Suresh Chatwal, Renu, Sapru, Poornima, Brahmachari, Bhagwan, Asit Sen, Ratan Kumar, Kirti Kumar, Hercules, Padma Kapoor, Bismillah, Dayanand, Dalda and others.

The movie introduced Rajanibala and Arvind.

This movie had five songs written by Kaifi Azmi and composed to music by Chitragupt.

Following is the detail of the songs of this movie as mentioned in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980).

S.No. Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Meri balaa jaane hain kitne yahaan gham Kishore Kumar Being discussed today
02 Dil se nazar tak tere ujaale Kishore Kumar 13.10.2015
03 Na roothho hamen paas aane bhi do Lata Mangeshkar 14.01.2018
04 Pal pal botal chhalke Asha Bhonsle
05 Ye dil jigar jafaa wafaa hai sab kuchh fasaana Lata Mangeshkar

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.12.1971.(so this is the same month it was passed by Censor Board, fifty years back) 😊

Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and on screen it is lip synced by Premendra who is seen singing and teasing actress Rekha. There are many other artists (I could not identify the other prominent actor in the song) also seen in the picturization of this song.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie and its songs.

Let us enjoy today’s song now …

Song-Ye meri bala jaane hain kitne yahaan gham(Saaz Aur Sanam)(1971) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Kaifi Azmi, MD-Chitragupta

Lyrics

ho haa haa haa
yo aa aa aa aa aa
come on

laa laa laa laa laa
laa laa laa laa
ye meri balaa jaane
hain kitne yahaan gham
mere dil ki haseen duniya
saaz aur sanam
saaz aur sanam
ye meri balaa jaane
hain kitne yahaan gham
mere dil ki haseen duniya
saaz aur sanam
saaz aur sanam

naghmaa wahi naghmaa
gham ko jo mitaa de
dilbar wahi dilbar
sitam jiska mazaa de
naghmaa wahi naghmaa
gham ko jo mitaa de
dilbar wahi dilbar
sitam jiska mazaa de
miley qaatil
kahaan kahaan
huaa ghaayal
kahaa kahaan
wahi manzil
wahi mehfil
jahaan rakh doon qadam
ye meri balaa jaane
hain kitne yahaan gham
mere dil ki haseen duniya
saaz aur sanam
saaz aur sanam

oye mehki huyi zulfen
behki si nigaahen
tumko nazarwaale
bhalaa kaise na chaahen
mehki huyi zulfen
behki si nigaahen
tumko nazarwaale
bhalaa kaise na chaahen
miley aankhen
jhuki jhuki
chali saansen
ruki ruki
zaraa chhalke
zaraa dhhalke
abhi masti hai kam
ye meri balaa jaane
hain kitne yahaan gham
mere dil ki haseen duniya
saaz aur sanam
saaz aur sanam

Blog Day : 3467 Post No. : 13920

Rewind back – goodness – 46 years. This song is from 1971, and the dear melody that we all love is quite alive and well.

Two names that we remember, and honor today – Chitragupt and Kaifi Azmi. Today, it is the birth anniversary of Kaifi Azmi and it is the passing away remembrance day for Chitragupt.

Back in 1971, Chitragupt is passing through his silver anniversary in the tinsel town, and Kaifi Azmi is celebrating his 20th in the same industry.

Chitragupt, born in 1917, started his career with Hindi films in 1945-46. In 1971, his journey has thus far passed through about 130 films, and he has composed approximately 930 songs so far. Kaifi Azmi, born in 1919, started to write for Hindi films in 1951. In 1971, he has thus far written approximately 225 songs for about 50 films.

With such illustrious and prolific careers behind them, it is a wonder that these two stalwarts did not get together till 1970 – almost two decades and more, that both of them had been active in the industry. Their coming together film in 1970 is ‘Hamaara Adhikar’. Then, in 1971, both collaborated once again for creating the songs for ‘Saaz Aur Sanam’. And then, that’s it. These two are the only films, and a handful of songs that these two worked on together.

‘Saaz Aur Sanam’ is a production from the banner of Wadia Movietone and is directed by JBH Wadia. The list of actors reads like – Premendra, Rekha, Suresh Chatwal, Sapru, Purnima, Bhagwan, Asit Sen, Kirti Kumar, Panna Kapoor, Bismillah, Dalda, Rajni Bala, Renu, Brahmachari, Ratan Kumar, Hercules, Dayanand, and Arvind etc.

Premendra is a name that we encounter for the first time in the film ‘Deedaar’ of 1970. He appears in ‘Holi Aayee Re, again in 1970, then in two films in 1971 – ‘Duniya Kya Jaane’ and ‘Saaz Aur Sanam’. And then this name does not appear any more in the listings. Four films, and that’s it. Rekha, who has just made her debut, also in 1970 with the film ‘Saawan Bhadon’ (opposite to Navin Nischol), continues to be active in the Hindi film industry to date.

The singing voice is of Lata Mangeshkar. The song is performed on screen by Rekha. The two protagonists – Rekha and Premendra – are both in their night-wear. It is clearly a ‘roothna – manaana’ category of song. Premendra is the one who is doing the sulking, and Rekha is the one who is trying to appease him. the hints of playfulness and naughtiness that we would see more of in her subsequent films, are quite visible in this song. Plus the original analysis that Atul ji has once done – it takes about three and a half minutes to “appease” a “sulking” hero or heroine, as the case may be. 🙂

A heartfelt salute to Chitragupt and to Kaifi Azmi on this day today. And a dearly wonderful song to celebrate. Listen and enjoy.

Song – Na Rootho Hamen Paas Aane Bhi Do  (Saaz Aur Sanam) (1971) Singer – Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics – Kaifi Azmi, MD – Chitragupt
