Today’s song is from the film ‘Beti’ (1941).
This film was made by Ranjit Movietone and it was directed by Jayant Desai. The music was by Gyan Dutt. The film cast consisted of Khursheed, Vasanti, Arun Ahuja, E Bilimorea, Ghori, Kesari, Khatoon, Nagendra, Rewa Shankar etc. 1941 was the beginning of the second decade of the talkie films. Many actors, singers, MDs and directors who rolled over to talkie films from the silent era, slowly started retiring and the new generation took over slowly. Actors like Nagendra, Rewa Shankar, Ghori, Kesari, Khatoon, and Bilimorea who were in this film ended their careers in the next few years.

Today, 19 July 2024, is a special day for the blog. It was on this date 16 years ago that this blog had come into existence with its debut post “Miley Na Phool To Kaanton Se Dosti Kr Li” on 19 July 2008. We have come a long way in the blog from that small beginning. On this occasion, we will have quite a few posts today to celebrate the occasion. Keep watching this blog throughout the day.
‘Savera’ (1942) was directed by Virendra C Desai for Bombay Cinetone Limited, Bombay. The movie had Arun Ahuja, Shobhna Samarth, Yakub, Nirmala Devi, Gharpure, Brij Mala, Nagendra etc in it.
This ‘social’ movie had 12 songs in it. All these songs are rare songs and are difficult to locate. One song has been covered in the blog so far.
Here is the second song from ‘Savera’ (1942) to appear in the blog. This song is described as a chorus song (समूह गान) in HFGK. As I listened carefully, to this song, I could make out that it has at least two distinct female voices in addition to chorus. One of the voice sounds like Nirmala Devi to me. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the identity of the voices.

Today, the December 25, 2018 is the Remembrance Day of music Director, Eric Roberts akka Vinod (22/05/1922 – 25/12/1959) who left for the heavenly abode on this day of 1959 at a prime age of 37. Vinod has been one of my favourite music directors who mostly followed the ‘Punjabi Ang’ of music, introduced in Hindi films by Pandit Amarnath. He composed top class melodies in Hindi and Punjabi films. His musical career started with ‘Khamosh Nighaaen’ (1946) and composed music for 28 Hindi films till his death in 1959.

Many aspirants, dreaming of becoming actor, singer, lyricist, music director etc. have been attracted towards Bollywood right from the time that sound films came into existence in 1931. However, a significantly large numbers of such aspirants do not get a chance to prove their perceived talents. Some of them who get chances in Bollywood are mainly those who have their relatives or friends to recommend them to producers/directors. But there is no guarantee that they would be successful and would establish themselves in the Hindi film industry. Many of them had to either leave the film industry or look for some other vocations in the film industry which were not of their choices.
