Mile na phool to kaanton se dosti kar lee

Posted on: July 19, 2008

SituationI have been trying hard to win the affections of my love, but my efforts are meeting with failure, and my advances are repeatedly being rebuffed, and I get no response from her.I am finally reconciled to my fate. Now how would I be feeling and how would I react and express myself in a nice way, without resorting to abusing her ?

Now look at the lyrics below. How beautifully the feelings of a spurned lover have been encapsulated in the simple looking words. No wonder this is one song that one can continue to listen to time and time again.

SongMile na phool to kaanton se dosti kar li (Anokhi Raat) (1968 ) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Kaifi Azmi,MD-Roshan

mile naa phool to kaanton se dosti kar li
mile naa phool to kaanton se dosti kar li
isi tarah se basar
isi tarah se basar
hum ne zindagi kar li
mile naa phool

ab aage jo bhi ho, anjaam dekhaa jaayega
ab aage jo bhi ho, anjaam dekhaa jaayega
khudaa taraash liyaa,
khudaa taraash liya
aur bandagi kar li
mile naa phool to kaanton se dosti kar li

nazar mili bhi naa thi aur unko dekh liya
nazar mili bhi naa thi aur unko dekh liya
zubaan khuli bhi naa thi
zubaan khuli bhi naa thi
aur baat bhi kar li
mile naa phool

wo jinko pyaar hai chaandi se,ishq sone se
wo jinko pyaar hai chaandi se,ishq sone se
wahi kahenge kabhi,
wahi kahenge kabhi
hum ne khudkhushi kar li
mile naa phool to kaanton se dosti kar li
isi tarah se basar humne zindagi kar li
mile naa phool

English Translation

I was unable to get among flowers, so I have decided to be friends with thorns. That is how I would now spend my life.

I am prepared for the consequences. I have carved my God and I have done my worship. No sooner did I notice her, I saw her thoroughly. No sooner did her lips open, I had had thorough discussions with her.

Those who are in love with wealth, may think that I was commiting suicide.

My two paisa:

Such simple words, but how expertly these words convey the message. The words simply hit the bulls eye, each and every time.

I have no idea when I first heard this song, but I am certain that every time I hear this song, I am mesmerised, and I am moved. Lyrics are wonderful, voice that sings it is divine, and the music director was at the peak of his prowess. This was Roshan’s last movie, and he died soon thereafter.

Very nice song, Atul. Like you say, lovely lyrics.
And as usual your presentation – especially the description of the situation – is superb.

Thanks, Raja. You are one who I can count on to appreciate my posts.

March 2011 seems to be the time I discovered this wonderful blog. This is one song I can never forget as it was the first song posted on the blog. The other unforgettable song is “Tum Agar Mujhko Na Chaho Toh” from the movie “Dil Hi To Hai”, which was also one of the first few songs discussed on the blog.

What an amazing journey this has been. Avinash Ji, just 13 more for a big YIPPEEEEEEEEEE! moment :). Atul Ji you have created history and we are so glad to have travelled with you on this journey so far :).

Here is the first song of the blog. And we are waiting for song number 12000

Nine wonderful years it is, right down to the last minute.

Ah yes, the mystery of 1:54.

This song was posted at 1:54 am on 19th July, 2008.

And so, at the stroke of 1:54 am today, it is the moment this blog turns nine. And then, it remains so for just one second. 🙂

Because, at 1:55 am, it is nine years and one second old. (and progressively onwards. . .) 😀 😀

Greetings to all on the bandwagon – the blog is exactly 9 years and 13,446 songs YOUNG.

And please note – 13446 = 1+3+4+4+6 = 18 = 1+8 = 9.

May the music be
With all of us
For all our lives

Lots of love
