Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 33
—————————————————————————
When I look back at 2010, the blog posting rate was surprisingly similar to the post rate of 2020. Every day one or two posts appeared during 2010. The blog clocked around 60 odd posts per month. Same is happening even in 2020.
Coming to this date 10 years ago, viz 3 june 2010, two posts were discussed in the blog as below :-
Song | Movie title-Year | Remarks |
---|---|---|
Tere binaa zindagi se koi shikwa nahin | Aandhi (1975) | All songs covered |
Mil ke bhi ham mil na sake | Sunahri Naagin (1963) | 07 of 08 songs posted |
“Sunahri Naagin-1963” was directed by Babubhai Mistry for Everest Pictures, Bombay. Its story and screenplay were by Pt Madhur and Vishwanath Pandey. Dialogues were by C K Mast. It was a fantasy movie which had Mahipal, Helen, Sulochana, Anwar Hussain, Sapru, Priti Bala aka Zeb Rehman, Ulhas, Paul Sharma, Jeevankala, Bela Bose, Madhumati, Sheela Kashmiri, Kamal Mehra etc in it.
When I was going through the above, I thought that I was going through the credits of “Parasmani”(1963). Both movies were created by the same team, and even the star cast had much in common. Mahipal was the hero in both the movies, Here in ‘Sunahri Naagin'(1963), we have Helen in female lead instead of Geetanjali.
“Sunahri Naagin”(1963) had eight songs in it. Seven songs have been covered in the past. Here are the details of the seven songs covered in the blog:-
S N | Song | Post number in blog | Date of posting |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Been na bajaana jaadu na jagaanaa | 2342 | 12-March-2010 |
2 | Tu hi tu hai main dekhaa karoon | 2345 | 14-March-2010 |
3 | Chhedoge mujhko agar jaan ke | 2449 | 16-March-2010 |
4 | Mil ke bhi ham mil na sake | 2511 | 3-June-2010 |
5 | Main to ho gayi re badnaam | 14495 | 16-July-2018 |
6 | Yoon na akadiye yoon na bigadiye | 15482 | 16-March-2020 |
7 | Donon haathhon se dil kyun sambhaala hai | 15493 | 24-March-2020 |
From the table, it can be seen that the movie made its debut in march 2010 and I discussed three songs from the movie in that month. Another song was discussed in june 2010. Then this movie was not taken up again in the blog for eight years.
This year, two songs have been discussed and one of these two songs was a Blog Ten Year Challenge song.
Today, another blog ten year challenge opportunity presents itself. On this occasion, here is this lovely song from “Sunahri Naagin”(1963). It is sung by Mukesh and Lata. The song is picturised on Mahipal and Helen. This song appears to be the song corresponding to Chori chori jo tumse mili to log kyaa kahenge of “Parasmani”(1963).
Not only are the singers same in the two songs, even the lyricist 9Farooque Kaiser is the same. Parasmani had music by Laxmikant Pyarelal. Here Kalyanji Anandji are the music director. Though HFGK is silent about the assistant music directors, it appears to me that Laxmikant Pyarelal may have been the assistant music director in this movie. I can notice Laxmikant Pyarelal stamp in this song.
It is a lovely song to listen to. Its lyrics and details were sent jointly by Prakashchandra and Avinash Scrapwala. Prakashchandra gave valuable background information on this movie whereas Avinash Scrapwala was the catalyst behind this Blog Ten Year Challenge Post.
With this song, all the eight songs of “Sunahri Naagin”(1963) are covered and the movie joins the list of movies that have been YIPPEEED in the blog. I notice that “Parasmani”(1963) too had been YIPPEED with its equivalent song viz Chori chori jo tumse mili to log kyaa kahenge . Such coincidences occur in the blog all the time.

Here is the seventh song from “Sunahri Naagin”(1963) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Usha Mangeshkar. Farooque Kaiser is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji. I am sue that Laxmikant Pyarelal were the assistants in this movie seeing the resemblence in music with “Parasmani”(1963).
The song is picturised as a dance song on Helen who is seen performing for Anwar Hussain playing a royal. Among others in the picture, one can notice Edwina too, playing a maid standing silently.

Lyrics
dil tu hamaar lai le

dil tu humaar lai le
nain tumse miley

“Khilaadi”(1968) was directed by Homi Wadia for Basant Pictures Bombay. This “social” movie had Nadia, Dilip Raj, Uma Bhende, Sujata, Sheikh, Suzie, Amarnath, Wazir Mohammad Khan, Vishwas Kunte, Uma Dutt, Dalpat, Habib etc in it.
The movie had five songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the past.
Here is the third song from “Khilaadi”(1968) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Farooque Kaiser is the lyricist. Music is composed by Lala Sattar.
The song is picturised as a seduction song on an actress who I think is Uma Bhende. I request our knowledgeable readers to help confirm/ refute my identification. The actress as well as the gentleman playing the centre of her attention appear ill suited for the roles they were entrusted to play in the song.
PS-Prakashchandra, our inhouse expert advises that the actress is Sujata seducing Dilip Raj.

Blog Day : | 4206 | Post No. : | 15400 |
Regulars of this blog must have got used to the fact that only one or two “new” songs get discussed daily in this blog and that is all. But oldtimer regulars would recall days of yore when six to seven songs were discussed in a day. On occasions, I had the mortification of being admonished by a subscriber to the blog. “I am a music lover but not so much that I can tolerate getting a song post notification every hour”- he stated. He must have registered for the blog on those days when I was able to post even twelve and thirteen posts in a day. 🙂
This is the fifth post of the day. Going by the present sedate ways of the blog, it is rather unusual. The last time this blog had 5 posts in a day was on 17 march 2019. That was the only such occurrence in the blog in 2019. In comparison, 2018 saw 37 such days. In 2012, when the blog was operating at a Sehwag like strike rate, we had 60 such days. As many as eight songs were covered daily on 39 days in 2012 !
So temporarily, it is feeling like old days for me. But today the reason for this suddenly found enthusiasm is that I want to complete the 154th century writeup of the blog before the weekend, when the going will get tough as far as posting articles is concerned.
I find that the blogging mindset is different when one is posting many posts in a day vis a vis the situation when one intends to post just one write-up. In discussing just one (or two) song in a day, we take a conservative approach. We basically become status quo-ist. On the other hand, when one posts many songs in a day one acts like an adventur-ist.
A conservative man would get defeated by the weather conditions (cold foggy winters) while an adventurist man would wake up early and go on a morning walk when the entire world is hiding under razaai. I find that even on this count I have become an adventurist. For the last few days, I have started going on a morning walk come fog or cold. No, I have not done it voluntarily. It is my pet Chhote who has suddenly become fond of being taken for a walk. So he insists that I take him for a walk in the morning, in the afternoon, and in fact all the time. So now I have started to wake up early, and have started walking early morning, often in chilly low visibility foggy conditions. And after that, I have begun to feel like a million dollars. This winter weather is not so daunting, I have rediscovered. I in fact regularly used to wake up even earlier (at 5 AM) during my stay at Bareilly. So now I am rediscovering my old self when I used to be more determined, and less conservative.
And that determination may well have been getting reflected here in the blog today. 🙂 It is the fifth and final song for the day. and I am realising that covering so many posts in a day is not all that tough. 🙂
In the process, I ended up listeing to lots and lots of songs yesterday night (as I used to do earlier) and I rediscovered the pleasures of stumbling upon gems after musical gems. Yesterday, Sudhir Jee asked me if I had any particular song in mind for this century post and I replied in negative. Within a few hours, I was spoilt for choice ! I discovered so many great songs that I had never heard before. and that is the situation when I may have already heard more that 15400 plus songs !
This song is from “Choron Ka Chaor” (1970). This forgotten movie was a stunt movie which was produced and directed by Muhammad Hussain for MH Films, Bombay. The movie had Dara Singh, Shabnam, Madan Puri, Shetty, Agha, Bhagwan, Roopesh Kumar, Jayshree T, Randheer, Meena, Neelam, Paro Devi, Gul Hamid, Kamini Devi, Shefali, Jerry, Anjum, Dada Kurte, Moolchand, Dilip Dagi, Sabir, V Gopal, Vishwas Kunte, Master Ripple, Indira Bansal, Habeeb, Trilok Singh, Tiger Abdullah etc. in it.
The movie had four forgotten songs in it. Two of these songs have been covered in the past.
Here is the third song from the movie. This song is one that I had never heard before. It is sung by two female singers who are better known as sisters of their more famous singing sisters. Most of the time they used to get duets with more celebrated singers. Here these two relatively ‘unsung’ singers are given an opportunity to carry a song on their own shoulders. And I must say that the song is just FANTASTIC. Too bad that this song has been forgotten. Or may be it was not even heard by public. I know for sure that I had never heard this song before.
A fantastic song that we are covering as the 15400th song post in the blog. Only the audio of the song is available. Even the audio is quite rare to come by. This song deserves better treatment.
I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song. This song sounds like a synchronized dance song performed by two female dancers in a ‘Villain’s den’ situation.
This song also marks the 100th song of Farooque Kaiser in the blog as a lyricist. Quite a befitting song to bring up his 100th song in the blog ! He becomes the 30th lyricist and 98th artist overall to complete a century of songs in the blog.
I take this opportunity to thank one and all for the continuous support and encouragement that has ensured continuous existence of this blog for over 4200 days (4206 days to be precise ! ). Let us hope that we will see many more such landmarks, and that the frequency of these landmarks will go up as was the case in the past.

bechainiyaan
har baat hai ae

iss taraf aankhein hain meri
uss taraf woh jaam hai
iss taraf aankhein hain meri
uss taraf woh jaam hai
pyaas logon ki bujhaanaa
phir bhi meraa kaam hai
aankhon kaa nashaa
kehtaa hai sadaa
pyaalon ka nashaa
hotaa hai buraa

ab nazar

meri saugaat hai
mmm…mmm
hhhhh
main hoon
tu hai aur raat hai
kyaa baat hai
hhhh
betaabiyaan
bechainiyaan
har baat hai ae
meri jaan
aaj toh
husn bhi ishq ke saath hai ae
ho
haa…..o
hhhh
main hoon tu hai aur raat hai
iss taraf aawaaz meri
uss taraf woh saaz hai
iss taraf aawaaz meri
uss taraf woh saaz hai
kaanon se dil mein utarnaa
yeh bhi ek andaaz hai
donon ki adaa
judaa hai judaa
donon ki sadaa
judaa hai judaa
main hoon rimjhim tarang
pyaar ki woh toh barsaat hai ae
o o o
mm..mmm
hhhhh
main hoon tu hai aur raat hai
kyaa baat hai
hhh
betaabiyaan
bechainiyaan
har baat hai ae
o meri jaan
aaj toh
husn bhi ishq ke saath hai ae
ho o o

“Khilaadi”(1968) was directed by Homi Wadia for Basant Pictures Bombay. This “social” movie had Nadia, Dilip Raj, Uma Bhende, Sujata, Sheikh, Suzie, Amarnath, Wazir Mohammad Khan, Vishwas Kunte, Uma Dutt, Dalpat, Habib etc in it.
The movie had five songs in it. One song has been covered in the past.
Here is the second song from “Khilaadi”(1968) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi. Farooque Kaiser is the lyricist. Music is composed by Lala Sattar.
The song is picturised on Dilip Raj and Uma Bhende. Dilip Raj was son of P Jairaj. Uma Bhende, a leading Marathi movie actress, had famously lip synced the popular “Dosti”(1964) song “Gudiya hamse roothi rahogi” earlier.

Song-Pyaar koi kam kam kare (Khilaadi)(1968) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Rafi, Lyrics-Farooque Kaiser, MD-Lala Sattar
Lyrics
pyaar koi kam kam kare
haaye alla
dheer dhare ji zara dheer dhare
kaahe gori chham chham kare
haaye alla
bijli gire ji dil pe bijli gire
pyaar koi kam kam kare
kaahe gori chham chham kare
hove ruswa na meri jawaani
mujhpe itni karo meharbaani
dil hai haazir abhi pyaar kar lo
phir na aayegi rut ye suhaani
duhaai duhaai mere saajna
koi kya karega tera saamna
haaye pyaar koi kam kam kare
haaye allah
dheer dhare ji zara dheer dhare
kaahe gori chham chham kare
haaye alla
bijli gire ji dil pe bijli gire
pyaar koi kam kam kare
kaahe gori chham chham kare
tu jo chaahe to kismat bana loon
dil ki dhadkan mein tujhko chhupa loon
aisi nazron se dekho na balma
hosh apne main kaise sambhaaloon
nasha hai sanam ye mere pyaar ka
bharosa nahin hai tere pyaar ka
haaye kaahe gori chham chham kare
haaye allah
bijli gire ji dil pe bijli gire
pyaar koi kam kam kare
haaye alla
dheer dhare ji zara dheer dhare
kaahe gori chham chham kare
pyaar koi kam kam kare ae ae

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
———————————————————–—-
#Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 83 # Remembering Feroz Khan#
—————————————————————————–——
Welcome all to this post of today, where, once again, I am taking you back to a song from the Seventies from a movie which is part of ‘nostalgia’ of my growing years.
In this blog we fondly discuss about ‘songs which bring back memories’. Many of my posts would fall into this ‘category’ as I have tried to share them with the memories of my childhood years and growing years thereafter.
During the ‘blog’s ten thousandth song –milestone’ I had written a post here and mentioned about few songs which for me bring back memories of my childhood and /or growing years.
At that time, I had listed many ‘prominent songs’ for me falling in ‘songs that brings back memories’ category. I had also noted that in future I may come with a second list of such songs which I get reminded time to time due to the connected memories of those years and they surface from vague and dormant memories.
Recently when I was going through this ‘first list’ of mine and noting down the songs which are yet to make it to the blog, I noticed that now very few songs from this list of mine are yet to be posted on the blog. One of these songs is the song being covered today.
And the reason for posting this song today is, it is picturised on actor Feroz Khan whom we fondly remember today on his tenth ‘Remembrance Day’.
(This song also has a female version which is picturised on actress Rekha).
Feroz Khan (25 September 1939 – 27 April 2009), born Zulfikar Ali Shah Khan, was born in Bangalore and he also breath his last in the city of Bangalore on 27th April 2009.
He came to Mumbai (Bombay then) and made his debut in Hindi movies with the movie ‘Didi’ in 1960. Initially he got smaller roles or roles in the second lead. After completing almost a decade in the Hindi Film Industry he ventured into production and direction with the movie ‘Apraadh-1972’.
Though I have not watched many of his movies, but whatever movies I had watched of him have left an indelible impression on my mind since my childhood.
And whenever the Hindi movies of the seventies will be discussed Feroz Khan’s name is going to be surely there. Because he has a special place carved for him in the midst of the so many actors of that decade and his ‘aura’ is something that cannot be forgotten by the ‘fans of the seventies’.
I never forgot the movie ‘Khotey Sikkey-1974’ which I must have watched with my elders earlier and later may be on TV. And for me it is this movie which I remembered most associated with his name. I had also shared a song from this movie when I joined this blog as a lyrics contributor.
Then I remember watching ‘Nagin-1976’, ‘Shankar Shambhu-1976’, ‘Sharaafat Chhod Di Maine-1976’, ‘Kabeela-1976’ and ‘Khoon Aur Paani-1981’ which I clearly remember of watching with my brothers and cousins may be in vacations. I think we also watched ‘Kaala Sona-1975’ and ‘Chunaoti-1979-80’ later, but I don’t remember it now.
‘Qurbaani-1980’ was a big hit in those years and all family watched it together.
Later I watched ‘Safar-191’, ‘Aadmi Aur Insaan-1970’ on TV. ‘Dharmatma-1975’ with friends on VCR (during the VCR days).
In between these years, around 1986-87 I watched ‘Aarzoo-1965’ in theatres in its re-re-released in end eighties.
After that I watched ‘Yalgaar-1992’ and ‘Dayaawan-1988’ in parts (on TV).
I watched ‘Apradh-1972’ again in 2008-2009 by buying its VCD because it had one my favourite songs in it i.e. ‘tum miley pyaar se’.
However I am yet watch his ‘Upaasna-1967’ and ‘Mela-1971’ which I think I should watch sometime in the future.
I will not go into more details about him and thus I will come to the today’s song thanking Feroz Khan for all the entertainment and those lovely memories of his movies he has given to us. His ‘cow boy’ image and specially his ‘dialogue deliveries’ riding on a horse 🙂 are his special features that I am always reminded of with his ‘steering eyes’:) (or may be, because of his image in my mind I am thinking that he might have spent more time sitting on the Horse’s back going by nature of roles he played in the majority of the movies) 🙂
Today’s movie ‘Kabeela-1976’ was directed by Bolu Khosla for ‘Khosla Enterprises, Bombay’. It was a ‘costume drama’ movie. Bolu Khosla was also the producer of this movie.
It had Feroz Khan, Rekha, Kamini Kaushal, Imtiaz, Premnath, V. Gopal, Sudhir, Shyam Kumar, Manju Bansal, Dhoomal, Surendranath, Heeralal, Habib, Baby Soniya, Darshan, Sharad Saxena and others. Bindu and Trilok Kapoor make a Special appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by A.K. Agarwal. Screenplay was written by Jayant Dharmadhikari. Akhtar Romani wrote the dialogues of this movie and editing was done by Waman Bhonsle.
This movie had four songs, including one multiple version song (which is being posted today). All its songs were written by Farooque Qaisar and composed to music by Kalyanji-Anandji. Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, and Mukesh had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 20.10.1976.
Today I am presenting a song from this movie which since years has been in my memory and it is a ‘catchy’ composition too. This song is in two versions male and female and sung respectively by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.
I could not find a separate video for the female version, but we have audio version for our listening pleasure. The female version is picturised on Rekha and male version is picturised on Feroz Khan and who we can see performing in his ‘dynamic-dashing’:) style on this song.
By the way this song ranked at number twenty-five in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala-1977’.
With this song ‘Kabeela-1976 (or Qabeela-1976’) makes a debut on the blog !!
(I also had the opportunity to introduce ‘Shankar -Shambhu-1976’ on the blog. ‘Naagin-1976’ – I had already shared a song.
And as noted earlier I think this year ‘1976’ had the most impact on my mind relating to songs and movies of that year when I was around 8 years old 🙂 )
Let us enjoy today’s song now.
