With the previous post in this series, we stepped into Mukesh’s world of 1947. His popularity and demand continued to increase. In this year, he has recorded 20 songs for nine films. Compare this with 7 songs for five films in 1946. We do recall that 1945 was good year for him, as he struck a chord of good fortune and popularity with the iconic song “Dil Jalta Hai To Jalne De”, and had recorded 8 songs for three films, seven of them for ‘Pehli Nazar’ and ‘Moorti’. So, after a slow year in 1946, Mukesh seems to be coming into his own in 1947.

Having discussed well over seven thousands songs in the blog, we are now in a position to pursue several milestone related targets. Target of centuries of songs by various artists is one. Another cherished target is to ensure that all songs of movies are discussed in the blog. By now over sixty artists have reached their centuries. Likewise, over 240 movies (adding up to over 1700 songs) have all their songs covered in the blog.

Kedar Sharma, a career that started with a paint brush, and then went on to scale exceptional heights of creative cinema, and in the process helped to start many a famous careers in the industry. The eminent showman, Raj Kapoor, revered him as his guru. Many a famous artists made their debut in his films – Madhubala, Geeta Bali, Mala Sinha, Bharat Bhushan, Tanuja etc. He was the inspiration and the encouragement for a whole generation of performers and directors in the early decades of the industry.

“Neelkamal” (1947) was produced and directed by Kidar Sharma. The movie had Raj Kapoor and Madhubala in lead roles. The movie also had Begam Para, Nazira, Rajendra, Shanta Kumari, Baby Indira, Kumar Sahu , Pesi patel, Subhashini etc in it.

“Neelkamal” (1947) was directed by Kidar Sharma. He had signed up Raj Kapoor, then working as his third assistant (viz clap boy) as the hero of this movie. When Raj Kapoor enquired which heroine was being signed up opposite him, Kidar Sharma asked him if he had any specific choice. Raj Kapoor named Madhubala who was then signed up for the movie.

I have discussed songs from “Insaaf” (1956) and “Insaaf” (1966) in the past. It appears that a movie of this title was released at every 10 years inerval those days, seeing that there was a movie with this title in 1946 too. 🙂

“Tohfa” (1947) is a movie about which little is known now. From internet, I can gather that the movie had
Nawab, Veera, Shahnawaz, Anuradha, Rehman, Misra, Agha etc in it.

“Rajputani”(1946) is by now an obscure movie. This movie was directed by Aspi Irani and it had Jairaj, Veena, Bipin Gupta, Usha Rani,Noori, Altaf Hussain, Azim etc in it.

Film “Dharam”(1945) was produced by Rattan Bai for Star Productions. Little information is available about this obscure movie. Various internet sources (all copying from the same source material) mention that this movie had seven songs in it. While the titles of songs are known and names of singers are also mentioned, lyricists of these songs are not known. The music was composed by Sajjad Hussain.
