Welcome all to today’s post which is coming after a long gap of more than two years. In this series we discussed song by ‘Pancham-Rafi’ jodi. This series was basically inspired by an article on the blog ‘Pancham and Only Pancham’ – and the title of the article is ‘Tribute to Rafi Sahab on 28th Death Anniversary‘, published on Rafi Sb’s twenty-eighth ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ on 31.07.2008. This article lists out the ‘variety of songs by the genius -Pancham-Rafi’ jodi based on different ‘genres’ of music.

There are songs with similar opening lines in “Ziddi” (1948) and well as in “Private Secretary” (1962). Both these songs are sung by Lata and both are superb songs.

I have posted a superb Kishore Kumar song from “Manmauji”(1962) in the past that went “Zaroorat hai zaroorat hai”. It was a playful light hearted song and showed that Madan Mohan could compose this kind of songs as well.

And a fine delicate balance must be struck. The male should not be so shy that he would not even approach the female, nor should he be too crude to turn the girl off. The usual Indian way, to launch a trial baloon, and to test the waters to see that the conditions are favourable for the approach- it is the recommended way that still works, as it did 50 years ago.
