Nanubhai Vakil (B.A., LL.B.) was an old timer in Indian film industry who commenced his filmy career as a director with a silent film in 1929. By 1932, he had directed as many as 21 silent films. His first talkie film as a director was ‘Narsinh Mehta’ (1932) which also happened to be the first talkie film in Gujarati. He has directed over 50 Hindi films most of which belonged to action, stunts, fantasy and costume genres of films. He directed his last Hindi film, ‘Alam Ara’ (1971) which he had earlier directed in 1956. In both these films, W M Khan donned the same role which he had done in India’s first talkie film, ‘Alam Ara’ (1931). He has also produced six Hindi films and W M Khan acted in all these films.

‘Police’ (1958) was produced by Deep Khosla and Pradeep Kumar under the banner of Deep & Pradeep Productions and was directed by Kalidas (Pradeep Kumar’s brother). The cast included Madhubala, Pradeep Kumar, Anwar Hussain, Nadira, Dhumal, Raj Mehra, Tun Tun, Deep Khosla, Rajan Kapoor, Jagdish Kanwal, Om Prakash, Neelofer with guest appearances of Bhagwan and Mirza Musharaf.

Today (14 december 2014) is the 90th birth anniversary of Raj Kapoor (14 december 1924- 2 June 1988). On this occasion, here is a song from “Ab Dilli Door Nahin”(1957). This movie was produced by Raj Kapoor and directed by Amar Kumar for R K Films. The movie had Romi, Motilal, Sulochana Latkar, Yakub, Anwar Hussain, Nand Kishore, Jagdeep, Brij Sharma, C.S.Dubey, Shivaji Rathore, Manohar Gir,Om Prakash, Mohan Choti, Suraj Prakash, Baby Chand aka Nazima, Amjad(later to become the famous villain Amjad Khan), Pappu, Ghansham, Ram Kumar, Tillu, Chandan Mukherji with Guest Artistes viz Iftikhar,Hari Shivdasani,Budo Adwani,Nana Palsikar,Bhupendra Kapur etc. in it.
