“Anyaay” (1949) was produced and directed by J S Kashyap for Diamond Pictures Limited, Bommbay.

“Anyaay”(1949) was a unique kind of movie. It was not an “original” standalone movie. It basically took scenes from 14 earlier movies of Bombay Talkies and combined them to come up with a story, shooting a few additional scenes as required. For shooting these scenes, the movie had used J S Kashyap, Laxman Saroj, Putli Bai, Narbada Shankar, Devidutt Nautiyal, Kesar Bai, Shree Bhagwan, B S Bhatnagar etc.

22nd August (yesterday) was the remembrance day of the exceptional, yet unsung music director – Ram Prasad Sharma. He had passed away this day in 1995. May be not easily identifiable by himself, he is probably known more through his sons. His four sons have all been well known musicians and instrumentalists, and all have been connected with the film industry. Two of them are also famous as music directors – Pyaarelal ji, of the Laxmikant Pyaarelal duo, and Ganesh.

पल दो पल का साथ हमारा, पल तो पल के याराने हैं
इस मंज़िल पर मिलने वाले

उस मंज़िल पर खो जाने हैं

Yes, we know, and we realize it. But still, it does seem that this साथ was not even justified as दो पल or even one. खो जाने वाली मंज़िल, कुछ बहुत ही जल्दी आ गई. . .

Skipping the letters ‘ढ’ and ‘ण’
‘ढ’ – very few songs starting with this letter – either all used, or not applicable to this series.
‘ण’ does not have any song starting with this letter. Made a very interesting discovery as I browsed the Hindi dictionary for words starting with ‘ण’. There is only one word that starts with this letter. More interestingly, the letter itself has uses as a monosyllabic word, and has at least 10 meanings associated. Wow.

So we come to the letter ‘प’ today. And here is a wonderfully lovely song to go with it.

“Anyaay” (1949) was directed by J S Cashyap for Diamaond Pictures Limited, Bombay. The movie combined scenes from 14 old hit movies of Bombay Talkies that were expertly edited, and then they were combined with some new scenes shot later. The movie had nine songs. Four of these songs were taken from old movies (including their picturisations) from “Jeewan Prabhat”(1937), “Hamaari Baat”(1943) and “Izzat”(1937). So this movie was an instance of literally cutting and pasting scenes from older movies and passing them off as a new movie.

People tend to promise themselves that they would turn a new leaf on the new year. So they begin with the right earnest on the new year day only to falter immediately afterwards. 🙂 My promise to myself on such occasions are similar to electoral promises made by candidates which must not be taken seriously by voters if they have learnt from past experiences. 🙂
