Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 40

This date ten years ago (4 April 2012) was a prolific day for the blog. As many as eight songs from eight different movies were covered in the blog on that day. Here are the details:-

Blog post number song Movie (Year) Remarks
5727 Saawan ke nazaare hain Khazaanchi(1941) Movie YIPPEED by now
5728 Manwa kaahe phir tadpaaye Waapas(1943) Movie YIPPEED by now
5729 Sochne ko laakh baaten soche insaan Baap Bete(1959) Movie YIPPEED by now
5730 Haathhon mein haath hothon pe afsaane pyaar ke Door Ki Aawaaz(1964) Movie YIPPEED by now
5731 Dekho bijli doley bin baadal ke Phir Wohi Dil Laaya Hoon(1963) Movie YIPPEED by now

5734 Jab koi ladki baar baar mere dil ko tadpaaye Chattaan Singh(1974) One songs covered out of 5

We can see that six movies (out of eight) whose songs were covered on that day have since been YIPPEED in the blog. That leaves us with only two movies that are still eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (4 April 2022).

दिल तोड़ने वाले, तुझे दिल ढूंढ रहा है
आवाज़ दे तू कौन सी नगरी में छुपा है

But maybe not. जिस नगरी में तुम चले गए हो, वहाँ से आवाज़ इधर नहीं आ सकती। The only sound that remains is the recordings available,

Now this song today has a very interesting peculiarity, that was brought to our group’s notice by Bakshish Singh ji. I will come that shortly.

Rare Performances – Things Unique and Unexpected #2

One aspect of the unexpected interludes on the Hindi film screen are the occasions when one gets to see songs performed on screen by the most unexpected actors. One does always expect the lead pair or pairs and occasionally the side heroes and side heroines to be performing songs of all types on screen. Of course the main comedy players are almost always expected to be performing songs of all types on screen. If you see the name Mehmood or Johnny Walker or IS Johar or even Jagdeep in the credits, one can be almost certain the film will have some song by them. This has been true for these actors, even during their senior years – one can see Johnny Walker in ‘Shaan’ (1980) joining the group song “Yamma Yammaa. . . Ye Khoobsurat Samaa”.

This post is a special post that celebrates the 400th song of Mukesh on this blog. Given that the total list of all known recordings of songs by Mukesh ji is just a little below one thousand (including all songs from Hindi films – 861, all songs from regional language films – 62, and non film renditions – 69), we are very close to hosting 50% of all the known film songs of Mukesh here. The numbers listed above are all the songs that are currently identified and for which the recordings are available. There definitely are more songs that have been recorded, but that have not been released and are not available, at least at present. Maybe someday, more songs may be uncovered and brought into circulation, but the thinking is that the number of such songs may not be very large in any case.
