Today (3 august 2014) is the 98th birth anniversary of Shakeel Badayuni (3 august 1916- 20 april 1970). Bulk of Shakeel Badayuni’s movies (around 89 movies) were with Naushad and their team have given us immortal songs for two decades from late 1940s to late 1960s.

The blog completed six years yesterday (19 july 2014). It was planned to touch the much anticipated 10,000th song mark on that day, but that could not be achieved due to unavoidable circumstances. Today the circumstances are favourable. And fortunately it happens to be a sunday as well. Today we are definitely going to touch the 10,000th song mark. What is more, this will be achieved when it is still 19 july 2014 in some parts of the world ! So the roundness of the world, which dictates that different nations have their own times comes to our rescue. 🙂

Wonderful site. A very useful & handy reference tool, too. I browse it regularly for my dose of golden oldies, rare gems, lyrics, song info or just to surprise myself. The days of yore studded with glittering jewels such as Radio Ceylon/SLBC & Vividh are sorely missed.
One thing that I notice & love about your blog is the painstaking indexing & categorisation of the content & the accuracy of material, esp. lyrics. Generally, the lyrics are free from errors, authentic and spelled brilliantly. Only a person of language can do such justice to transliterating hindi into english with admirable precision & exactness.
I’m sure you devote a considerable amount of time to build up and maintain this blog. As I do consult this blog from time to time, to repay the favour and as a token of my gratitude, I would like to offer my assistance in keeping this blog ticking over. They feel that those who see such films are way behind the times. These people forget that in the so called ” advanced” world of Hollywood, even today,Mythological,costume and Historical films are regularly produced. Only thing is that these films are no longer advertised on the same scale as was the case a few decades back.

“Amaanat” (1975) was produced and directed by Shatrujit Paul. The movie had Manoj Kumar, Sadhana, Balraj Sahni, Mehmood, Achala Sachdev, Shashikala, Keshto Mukherji etc in it. This movie began in 1960s and its songs got released much before the movie. The movie itself had a very delayed release. It finally got its censor certificate on 31 december 1975 and thus qualified as a movie of 1975!
