The first five years of Mukesh’s career, from 1941 to 1945 were sketchy, and not very productive. The available records show that he sang 14 songs in six films during these five years. His singing did not capture much attention, and Mukesh was a discouraged man, contemplating to leave Bombay and return home to Delhi. But then in 1945, ‘Pehli Nazar’ happened, under the baton of Anil Biswas. And after the release of ‘Pehli Nazar’, Mukesh’s career was on the up and up.

Type casting in the film world does not always apply to actors only. Artists in other categories also sometimes suffer the vagaries of being type cast into a particular mould. And much as they try to get away from that image, the perception of the success factor somehow conspires to keep them tied down to the image. There are hugely talented artists in all categories who have been sidelined, much before their full potential could be enjoyed by the viewers and listeners. Granted that there can me more reasons for their fading away before time, but yes, this typecasting has been a significant factor.

The 1965 film ‘Johar Mehmood in Goa’ is a veritable treasure house of wonderful songs and music. A popular hit in its own time, this film still continues to be known for the songs. Of the total of eight songs, four song are already represented on this blog. This duet here now becomes the fifth song from this film to make it here.

The name of SHABISTAN evokes the memories of a very handsome and jovial actor-SHYAM.

He died during the final scene shooting of this film while riding a horse. Actually, Shyam was an expert rider and the horse was also the same,usual one. Everything was the same but the Time had come for Shyam to go…

“Mother India” (1957) was a Mehboob Production movie. It was produced and directed by Mehboob Khan. The movie had Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, Raj Kumar, Kanhaiyalal, Jilloo Maa, Kumkum, Chanchal, Sheela Naik, Mukri, Ram Shastri etc in it.
