A lovely and endearing song – a song that I encountered just today for the first time. Sometimes, well not only sometimes, but quite often, some of the songs by Asha Bhosle, give you a sudden surprise – oh OK, so it is Asha. On first hearing in passing, if one did not know the singer’s name, the mind would not easily pick out Asha ji’s name as the singer. Yes, a very soft, a very humble, and a very mellow composition.

Those who hear this song for the first time will immediately exclaim that the song has the same tune as Ho leke pahla pahla pyaar (CID) . ‘Born with a silver spoon’ is a phrase which has often been used with reference to a person born in a rich family. It would not be out of place if If I coin a similar pharse ‘born with the golden Hindi film songs’ with reference to Bharat Bhushan and Pradeep Kumar. They were blessed with the best of the songs of the golden era by picturising on them. There was not much to talk about their acting capabilities but they were so lucky in their filmy career that they paired with some of the most prolific heroines with their impeachable acting capabilities. No doubt, most of their films became the box office hits. They are known today even to the new generation mainly because of the songs they got to sing on the screen rather than for their acting ability.

Today (24th december) is Rafi’s birthday so today we are discussing songs sung by Rafi in this blog.

Here is a song from “Mirza Saahibaan”(1957). I notice that I have discussed as many as six songs from a movie of the same name that was released in 1947 and which starred Trilok Kapoor and Noorjahaan, but only one song from “Mirza Saahibaan” (1957) which starred Trilok Kapoor’s nephew, someone known as Shammi Kapoor 🙂 and Shyama.
