Today’s song is from the film Nek Parvin-1946. It was produced under the banner of D.R.D.Productions – Bombay. This banner was floated by D.R.D. Today’s song is from the comedy film Hangama-1952.

1952 was an year which was going through a lean period for Hindi films. Increased costs of Film production, escalating rates of stars and music Directors, establishment of Star System in place of earlier Studio System, increasing taxes, decreasing number of Cinema Halls etc caused a worry in the film industry. Financiers with Black money were making films – in 1952 the number of Hindi films made went up to 105 from 97 of 1951, but dropped again to 98 in 1953. Most films were of lower quality. Because of superior music there were some great films too, but the situation was grave nevertheless.

Today’s song is from the film Sipahiya-1949.

Many film artists – actors, singers, directors etc – have written their autobiography. If you take a look at all these, the females have more autobios than the males, for reasons not known to me. In my last few years of activity in the arena of old films, I have collected many books and have received many books as ‘Gifts’ from the authors. Among these, there are many autobios, including the autobio of C Ramchandra, music director of today’s film Sipahiya-1949.

Today’s song is from “one of a kind” of a film – Kinaara-1949.

This was a film made by New India Theatres, Bombay. It was directed by Ambalal Dave, for whom it was the only and the last individually directed film. Same year he had directed one more film jointly with Narayan Patel (another first and last timer) – Roop Sundari-1949.
