There is a wonderful and very melodious song by Mukesh (already posted Palbhar ki hi pehchaan mein ). The film is Anuraag from 1953. The mukhda of this song is

“Pal Bhar Ki Hi Penchaan Mein Pardesi Sanam Se”
“Lagtaa Hai Ki Ham Jaante Hon Janam Janam Se”

Talat Mehmood had sung most of his duet songs mainly with Suraiyya, Geeta Dutt, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle and Sudha Malhotra. I get a feel of an affinity between the singers on the one hand and the actors on the screen on the other hand when I listen to Talat Mehmood-Geeta Dutt duets. This combination is pleasing to my ears and gives credence to what is intended in the lyrics. The song which comes to my mind in this context is ‘armaan bhare dil ki lagan tere liye hai’ from JAAN PEHCHAAN (1950).

Hindi Cinema has given us the treasure of so many melodious singers who never restricted their ability only for the movie songs. Remembering Talat Mehmood on his 88th birth anniversary today, the 24th of February.

The moon generally does not venture out during the daytime. For if it does, then no one can see it, and no one would pay any attention – for daytime is the time of the sun. No matter however enchanting the moon may seem by itself, daytime is not the time for it.

Talat Mehmood ( 24-02-1924 – 09-05-1998) and the song ‘ tasveer teri dil mera behalaa naa sakegi’ are synonymous. I was under the impression that this song was from a film. But after getting hold of a 78 rpm record ( N.16767) of this song in early 70s, I realised that it was a non-filmy song. I came to know much later that this was one of the top selling gramophone records issued in early 40s and this song brought Talat Mehmood to the limelight as a singer in Hindi film industry.

I was aware of the film Suhagan (1964) but never knew that one more film by the same name was released in 1954. In fact, I found that most of the websites including IMD jumbled the details of both these films in Suhagan (1954). As per Indian Film Trade website, the film was produced by Datta Dharmadhikari, a Marathi film veteran who has been known for producing and directing family drama films. Anant Mane, also a veteran Marathi film director, directed the film. The star cast included Geeta Bali and Jaswant in the lead role and Shyam Kumar, Sulochana, Vijaylaxmi, Janakidas in subsidiary roles.
