Jhuki jhuki si nazar

on:“Arth” was an art movie or parallel movie as low budget movies were described as in those days. Apart from the realistic story line which were supposedly based on the life of Mahesh Bhatt, the movie had some nice ghazals. It was one movie that helped popularise ghazals which was a welcome development considering that the other option in Bollywood filmy music those days used to be “disco” songs.
“Arth” had quite a few nice ghazals penned by true blue shayars. Here is a memorable ghazal written by Kaifi Azmi. The movie, incidentally had his daughter, Shabana Azmi acting in this movie, and indeed in this song. Raj Kiran sings this ghazal on the screen addressing Shabana Azmi.
Song- Jhuki jhuki si nazar (Arth) (1982) Singer-Jagjeet Singh, Lyrics-Kaifi Azmi, MD-Jagjit Singh
Lyrics
jhuki jhuki si nazar beqaraar hai ki nahin
jhuki jhuki si nazar beqaraar hai ki nahin
dabaa dabaa saa sahi dil mein pyaar hai ki nahin
jhuki jhuki si nazar
tu apne dil ki jawaan dhadkanon ko gin ke bataa
tu apne dil ki jawaan dhadkanon ko gin ke bataa
meri tarah teraa dil beqaraar hai ki nahin
dabaa dabaa saa sahi dil mein pyaar hai ki nahin
jhuki jhuki si nazar
teri ummeed pe thukraa rahaa hoon duniyaa ko
teri ummeed pe thukraa rahaa hoon duniyaa ko
tujhe bhi apne pe ye aitabaar hai ki nahin
dabaa dabaa saa sahi dil mein pyaar hai ki nahin
jhuki jhuki si nazar

atul sir,
there is one more paragraph in this song starting like this
woh pal ke jisme muhabat jawan hoti hain
us pal ka tujhe intezaar hain ki nahi

Thanks abhishek, I knew this ghazal had 3 paragrahs, but most videos dont show it.

1 of my all time favourite ghazals 🙂

The music world will miss Jagjit Sing. When it comes to ghazals, he would get so close to the soul of its words. I have heard that Raj Kiran is in mental hospital in Atlanta, Georgis, USA. We hope he is doing better.

Here is the audio clip with the third pragraph-
wo pal ke jis mein mohabbat jawaan hoti hai
wo pal ke jis mein mohabbat jawaan hoti hai
us ek pal ka tujhe intzaar hai ki nahin
daba daba sa sahi dil mein pyaar hai ki nahin
jhuki jhuki si nazar

Atuji
Now this song has to be credited with the name of Music duo Jagjit Singh & chitra singh (and NOT as a creation of kuldeep singh)
Again while we run the option list of movies alphabetically, the name in front of 3 songs of Arth is displayed as Kuldeep singh, Which has to be corrected as Jagjit singh & chira Singh

Arth was quite a memorable movie due to it’s bold theme! Lovely ghazal! wish Raj Kiran was still around in the acting scene!
