Naache man mora magan
Posted on: November 11, 2008
Here is this song “naache man mora magan” from “Meri Soorat Teri Aankhen”. I have listened to this song in past, but never fully or with rapt attention. But this time, when I listened to this song as a preparation for including it in the blog, I really was made to sit up and take notice.
I have mentioned in almost all posts dealing with Rafi songs that Rafi’s voice was divine. If one listens to songs, one can find some shortcomings in the diction of singers, even legendary singers. But in this particular song, I could find absolutely no blemish.
This is a semi classical song, and I feel that this must go down as an example of a perfect semi classical song in Bollywood movies. It is an absolutely wonderful and fantastic song sung by Rafi. The voice is so crystal clear and blemishless that one cannot have words to describe the perfection of this singing. As far as I am concerned, this has got to be one of the best semi classical songs in Bollywood movies, bar none.
This song was written by Shailendra and music was by S D Burman. The tabla for this song was played by renowned classical tabla exponent Pt Samta Prasad.

chhup chhup aise mein, chhup chhup aise mein, koyi madhur geet gaaye
geeton ke bahaane, geeton ke bahaane, chhupi baat honthon pe aaye
ghir aaye, badraa ghir aaye, rut hai bheegi bheegi
naache man moraa, magan dhigdhaa
e, naache man moraa, aa aa

Pandit Samta Prasad also known as Gudai Maharaj for his control on the Baayaan (or the left drum) was a resident of Banaras and rarely visited Bombay.
Reportedly, SDB waited for Panditji’s visit to Bombay so that he could get him for the song.
Incidentally, Panditji taught the Tabla to Pancham!
