Jaanewaalon zara mudke dekho mujhe

Posted on: December 27, 2008

“Dosti” was a small budget movie produced by Rajshree productions, where they used their standard formula of taking unknown/ less known actors and rely upon good story line and music.

The actors who played the lead roles were unknown then and they continued to remain unknown even subsequently.

Rajshree productions had also signed up an up and coming music director duo, who created such awesome music that the movie to this date is known for its music than for any other reason.

That uncoming music director duo were Laxmikant Pyarelal who received great support from Rafi, who was known to help out upcoming music directors without charging his singing fee. And it must be said that it was Rafi’s voice that was primarily responsible for the huge popularity of the songs of this movie. What amazing songs he sang in this movie. When I was watching this movie in early 1980s for the first time and one Rafi song after another were appearing in the movie, I was becoming more and more amazed. Oh, this song is from this movie, wow, this song is also from this movie… I kept repeating this with every song till I lost count.

Later, I came to know that this song became hugely popular with beggars of Bombay local trains too. And I was a bit disappointed to realise that such a great song may be treated as a beggars’ song. But then this is Bombay meri jaan- as Rafi himself crooned in an earlier song from an earlier movie.

Let me reiterate- what an awesome song. And I will repeat the same thing as I post other songs from this movie.

Song-Jaane waalon jara mud ke dekho mujhe ( Dosti ) (1964) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD- Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

ho
jaane waalon zaraa, mud ke dekho mujhe
ek insaan hoon main tumhaari tarah
jaane waalon zaraa, mud ke dekho mujhe
ek insaan hoon main tumhaari tarah
jisne sabko rachaa, apne hi roop se
uski pahchaan hoon main tumhaari tarah
jaane waalon zaraa …

is anokhe jagat ki main taqdeer hoon
is anokhe jagat ki main taqdeer hoon
main vidhaataa ke haathon ki tasweer hoon
ek tasweer hoon
is jahaan ke liye, dharti maan ke liye
shiv kaa vardaan hoon, main tumhaari tarah
jaane waalon zaraa…

man ke andar chhipaaye milan ki lagan
man ke andar chhipaaye milan ki lagan
apne sooraj se hoon ek bichhdi kiran
ek bichhdi kiran
phir rahaa hoon bhataktaa, main yahaan se wahaan
aur pareshaan hoon, main tumhaari tarah
jaane waalon zaraa…

mere paas aao chhodo yeh saaraa bharam
mere paas aao chhodo yeh saaraa bharam
jo meraa dukh wohi hai tumhaaraa bhi gham
hai tumhaaraa bhi gham
dekhtaa hoon tumhe, jaantaa hoon tumhe
laakh anjaan hoon, main tumhaari tarah
jaane waalon zaraa, mud ke dekho mujhe
ek insaan hoon main tumhaari tarah
jisne sabko rachaa, apne hi roop se
uski pahchaan hoon main tumhaari tarah
jaane waalon zaraa
hmm hmm..

This movie had some of the greatest songs ever, including “Koi jab raah na paaye …” and “Chahoonga main tujhe …” and of course, this one. How I wish we had more songs like these now a days!

Thanks for all these wonderful songs that you are bringing back for our listening pleasure.
