Tere haathon me pahna ke choodiyaan

Posted on: December 28, 2008

Here is a “choodi” song from a movie called “Jaani Dushman”, which is picturised on Jeetendra, Neetu Singh and Sarika.

Coming to the movie, “Jaani Dushman”, by now a forgotten movie, was in the news during those days because of its troubles with the censors. Censors thought that there was too much of horror in this movie so they were unwilling to certify it fit for public exhibition. Finally the movie was released with an “A” certificate.

After watching the movie, I realised that the censors need not have worried. The movie had a ridiculous story line and the so called horror in the movie may not have terrified anyone. At least I found it laughable.

Since the movie itself lost its plot ( literally), the only redeeemable thing about the movie was its music. A few of its songs became popular. One of the popular songs was this “choodi” song. This song in fact was so popular that it stood 7th in Binaca geetmala finals of 1979.

Song-Tere haathon me pahnaake choodiyaan (Jaani Dushman) (1979) Singer-Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Verma Malik, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

tere haathon mein pahnaa ke choodiyaan o choodiyaan
haathon mein pahnaa ke choodiyaan
tere haathon mein pahnaa ke choodiyaan
ke mauj banjaaraa le gayaa haay
ke mauj banjaaraa le gayaa le gayaa
tere haathon mein pahna ke choodiyaan…
toone dil tak to meraa le liyaa le liyaa
dil tak to meraa le liyaa
toone dil tak to meraa le liyaa
ke wo kyaa bechaaraa le gayaa haay
ke wo kyaa bechaaraa le gayaa le gayaa
toone dil tak to mera le liyaa…

mere saamne hi koyi begaanaa
mere saamne hi koyi begaanaa
ke roop kaa nazaaraa le gayaa haay
ke roop kaa nazaaraa le gayaa le gayaa
tu jaltaa hai kyoon re deewaane
deewaane tu jaltaa hai kyoon re deewaane
ke wo kyaa tumhaaraa le gayaa haay
ke wo kyaa tumhaaraa le gayaa le gayaa
tere haathon mein pahna ke choodiyaan…

ho o
ise mere hi tu naam lagaa de
ise mere hi tu naam lagaa de
jawaani tere kis kaam ki
ise mere hi tu naam lagaa de
jawaani tere kis kaam ki
dil legaa koyi mera dilwaalaa
ye baat nahin tere bas ki bas ki
aaj husn kaa jalwaa de-de
aaj husn kaa jalwaa de-de
to kal se main taubaa kar loon haay
to kal se main taubaa kar loon haay
saal sataraa sambhaalaa ise mahine
saal sataraa sambhaalaa ise mahine
re aise kaise tujhe saunp doon haay
re aise kaise tujhe saunp doon
saunp doon
tere haathon mein pahna ke choodiyaan…

tere honthon se lipat jaaun sajni
main surkhi kaa rang ban ke haay
tere honthon se lipat jaaun sajni
main surkhi kaa rang ban ke
tere jaise kayi
tere jaise kayi lut gaye kunwaare
paayal meri jab chhanke jab chhanke
goraa rang naa kisi kaa hoye
goraa rang naa kisi kaa hoye
ke saaraa jag bairi ho jaaye haay
ke saaraa jag bairi ho jaaye
ho jaaye
saare jag se nipat loon akeli
akeli
saare jag se nipat loon akeli akeli
ke pahle tu jo meraa ho jaaye haay
ke pahle tu jo meraa ho jaaye ho jaaye

chhodo jhagde milaa lo dil ko
ho chhodo jhagde milaa lo dil ko
na raho aise tan-tan ke haay
na raho aise tan-tan ke
tan tan ke
tere ghar mein ujaalaa kar de
tere ghar mein ujaalaa kar de
tu le jaa ise dulhaa ban ke
haaye
tu le jaa ise dulhaa ban ke
dulhaa ban ke

I had never heard this song until today. Interesting beat. I can also see why Jeetu was known as Jumping Jack Jeetu, after all the jumping jacks he did for this song!

Thanks for posting this farmaish of mine, Atul.
I saw this movie for the first time only a couple of years ago.
And, like you said, found the storyline ridiculous. I am amazed that people bought this nonsense. But then it was a multi-multi-starrer and that would have helped.

The songs were quite popular at that time. This one of course. “Chalo re doli uthao” was good for Rafi sentimentalists but I was 15/16 then, so hardly in that mood. The other song in this movie that I used to like a lot (reflecting my age) was “O meri jaan, bol meri jaan”.

You know what !!!
I just listened to this song again – and guess what it reminds me of ?
“Ude jab jab zulfen teri”.

Same setting – instead of Dilip/Vyjanthi it is Jeetu/Neetu but otherwise, exactly same setting.

Same style of mood and song too, with Dilip trying to woo Vyjanthi and she plays along, teasing him.

No wonder I like this song. Though “Ude jab jab” will still be in my top 10 songs of all-time and this will not.

You are right. Even I could not help feeling that the tune could well be an O P Nayyar tune.
