Alphabetical list of actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice- Part XIII
(Actresses whose name begin with the letter M)
In the first twelve episodes of the series, we listed actresses whose names begin with the first twelve letters of the alphabet and who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. Then we went on to cover a song that was lip synced by another acresses whose name began with the same letter and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.
The exercise of finding a “new” actress whose name begins with a particular letter is being increasingly difficult. The three “new” actresses who made their debuts in the blog (as far as lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice is concerned) were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya,Chandrakala,Divya Bharati, Ekta,Farheen,Gulnar Irani,Harsha Mehra,Isha Koppikar,Jasmine,Khushboo and Laila.
In this episode, we arrive at the thirteenth letter M. In other words, we have arrived at the halfway mark in this alphabetical journey. M is a very prolific number as far as number of Hindi film actresses are concerned. As many as 27 actresses whose name begin with M have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. The list includes some iconic names as we will see in the table that is provided below.

We notice that iconic stars viz Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Mala Sinha, Mumtaz, Madhuri Dixit figure in the list of actresses that have lip synced in the voice of Asha Bhonsle. Less known relatives of more famous actors (Malika, sister of Mumtaz, Manju Asrani, wife of Asrani, Mithhu Mukherjee niece of Anita Guha)) are there in the list. Then there are names that can create same name confusion among movie and music lovers, with quite a few Meena, Meenakshi, Manisha being there, not to speak of Madhumati and Madhumita !
Just as there are so many actresses with the letter M that have already lip synced in the voice of Asha Bhonsle in the blog, there were a few actresses who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice but had not yet figured in the blog in that capacity. Even I could think of some such names but I could not locate any Asha Bhonsle songs picturised on them. Our inhouse expert Prakashchandra gave a couple of names of these actresses. Out of them, I have gone with Madhavi (south), the actress whom we saw with Amitabh Bachchan in Andha Kanoon (1983). Madhavi is represented in the blog in a few songs, but not in a song sung by Asha Bhonsle.
The movie, where Asha Bhonsle sings for Madhavi is “Kalyug Aur Ramayan”(1987).This movie was the home production of Manoj Kumar to re-launch his brother Rajiv Goswami after the original launch vehicle “Painter Babu”(1983) failed to launch his career.
“Kalyug Aur Ramayan”(1987) was produced by Shashi Goswami (wife of Manoj Kumar) and was directed by Babubhai Mistri. The movie had Manoj Kumar, Madhavi, Prem Chopra, Om Prakash, Bindu, Rajiv Goswami, Satish Shah, Sonika Gill, Abhi Bhattacharya,Huma Khan, Urmila Bhatt,Parikshat Sahni etc in it.
There were eight songs in the movie. Only one song had the voice of Asha Bhonsle and that song was picturised on Madhavi.
Here is that song. This song is penned by Maya Govind. Kalyanji Anandji are the music directors. Picturisation of this song shows Rajiv Goswami tied up in Villain Prem Chopra’s den and Prem Chopra asks Madhavi to sing and dance. The prisoner Rajiv Goswami too lip syncs a few lines. The playback for his part of the song is given by Vishal Goswami (son of Manoj Kumar).
Here is this song from “”Kalyug Aur Ramayan”(1987). with this song, the movie makes its debut in the blog.
With the letter M done and dusted, the next episode of this series will cover the letter N. This letter too offers a good number of actresses, 22 to be precise, who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.
