Aane waala pal jaanewala hai

“Golmaal” was a light hearted movie, and I doubt that its songs were planned to be of anything more than timepass nature. But trust the Gulzar-R D Burman combination to take their jobs so seriously that they came up with this song in a timepass situation which went on to become an evergreen composition. In fact, for a long time, I used to wonder why people take this song so seriously. Finally I have shrugged my shoulders and reconciled myself to the fact that this song must be treated as a serious classic song.
The situation of the song was that Amol Palekar, playing double role ( “Ram” to impress Utpal Dutt, and “Laxman” to impress Bindiya Goswami sings a song in his role of Laxman. Gulzar, instead of coming with some chaalu lyrics comes up with such fantastic lines viz. “ek baar waqt se, lamhaa giraa kahin
wahaan daastaan mili lamhaa kahin nahin”.
Now what can you say about such classy poetry. Even laymen, who do not understand half the words, realise that they are listening to some high class lyrics. And there is little doubt that it is the lyrics of this song that has made this song such a memorable song. Of course, one cannot forget R D Burman’s music, or Kishore Kumar’s voice. These three greats have collaborated to come up with a timeless classic, and not for the first time either.

Song-Aane waala pal jaanewaala hai (Golmaal) (1979) Singer-Kishore Kumar,Lyrics-Gulzar, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
aane waalaa pal jaane waalaa hai
aane waalaa pal jaane waalaa hai
ho sake to is mein
zindagi bitaa do
pal jo ye jaane waalaa hai
ho aane waalaa pal jaane waalaa hai
ho sake to is mein
zindagi bitaa do
pal jo ye jaane waalaa hai
ek baar yoon mili, maasoom si kali
ek baar yoon mili, maasoom si kali
ho khilte huye kahaa
khush paash main chali
dekhaa to yahin hai
dhoondhaa to nahin hai
pal jo ye jaane waalaa hai
ho aane waalaa pal jaane waalaa hai
ho sake to is mein
zindagi bitaa do
pal jo ye jaane waalaa hai
ek baar waqt se, lamhaa giraa kahin
ek baar waqt se, lamhaa giraa kahin
wahaan daastaan mili
lamhaa kahin nahin
thodaa saa hansaake
thodaa saa rulaake
pal ye bhi jaane waalaa hai
ho aane waalaa pal jaane waalaa hai
ho sake to us mein, zindagi bitaa do
pal jo ye jaane waalaa hai
ho aane waalaa pal jaane waalaa hai
ho aane waalaa pal jaane waalaa hai
