“Kati Patang” is a movie that is teeming with great songs. I have already posted a few of them (three of them to be precise), but I am not done with the songs from this movie. There are still many great songs from this movie that are yet to be posted.
“Pyar deewana hota hai mastaana hota hai” is a piano song and a party song by my definition, but this is also a song that can be called a time machine song. Every time I listen to it, I am miraculously teleported to the time and place where this movie “kati Patang” is set, and I can clearly visualise everything in my mind’s eye. So what if I have never watched the movie !
Yes, it is true. I have only read the Gulshan Nanda novel and I have only listened to the songs, but the novel as well as the songs have left such a lasting impression on me that I did not feel the need to watch the movie. Yes, the VCD of this movie is very much there with me, just in case.
And I am proud to announce that this “Kati Patang” song is the 500th song of this blog. Yes, this blog now boasts of half a thousand songs that have been posted in just about six months. The last 100 songs have been posted in 19 days, which breaks the record of 22 days for the earlier 100 songs.
I thank the visitors of this blog whose whole hearted encouragements provides me with the energy and motivation necessary for keeping this labour of love going. And I hope that I will be able to post many more outstanding songs in this blog in the coming days. Keep up your visits, comments, farmaishes etc. on this blog.
Song-Pyaar deewaana hota hai mastaana hota hai (Kati Patang) (1970) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
pyaar deewaanaa hotaa hai, mastaanaa hotaa hai
har khushi se, har gham se, begaanaa hotaa hai
pyaar deewaanaa hotaa hai, mastaanaa hotaa hai
har khushi se, har gham se, begaanaa hotaa hai
shamaa kahe parwaane se, pare chalaa jaa
meri tarah jal jaayegaa, yahaan nahin aa
shamaa kahe parwaane se, pare chalaa jaa
meri tarah jal jaayegaa, yahaan nahin aa
wo nahin suntaa usko jal jaanaa hotaa hai
har khushi se, har gham se, begaanaa hotaa hai
pyaar deewaanaa hotaa hai, mastaanaa hotaa hai
aa hi jaataa hai jispe dil aanaa hotaa hai
har khushi se, har gham se, begaanaa hotaa hai
pyaar deewaanaa hotaa hai, mastaanaa hotaa hai
har khushi se, har gham se, begaanaa hotaa hai
suno kisi shaayar ne ye, kahaa bahut khoob
manaa kare duniyaa lekin, mere mahboob
suno kisi shaayar ne ye, kahaa bahut khoob
manaa kare duniyaa lekin, mere mahboob
wo chhalak jaataa hai jo paimaanaa hotaa hai
har khushi se, har gham se, begaanaa hotaa hai
pyaar deewaanaa hotaa hai, mastaanaa hotaa hai
har khushi se, har gham se, begaanaa hotaa hai

Fantastic Atul, thanks for meeting my farmaish. Indeed a timeless song, I still get lost in it after all these years. I think it is a good movie not great, but the songs specially the Kishore numbers are exceptional. Thanks again and great job with the blog!

Wow…500 up !!!
Congrats, Atul….onto 1000 now…
We will always be here to support and encourage you, Atul.
You have no clue how much I love this site…one of the first things I do every day is to see the new songs of the day. 🙂
As for this song, lovely song to pick for the 500th.
At various times during my childhood, I had “favourite” songs…this was one of them during a particular period. It was followed by “o mere dil ke chain”. 🙂

Congratulations on reaching your 500th song! This song was my favorite during my Rajesh Khanna phase, when all I could think of was his way of crinkling his eyes and tilting his head and thought they were so cute! Oh well, those days are long gone! Thank you!

Asha Bhonsle (except the first line) sang a song in the same tune for the Bengali film ‘Rajkumar’ (1970). Video below :

Congrats Atul on the 500th song and that too one with the heady Kaka-RD-Kishore combine 🙂 I remember the first time I chanced on your blog a few months back was when you had posted my favorite number from this film, “Jis gali mein tera ghar na ho balma”. Sublime!
We’re very grateful for all your efforts–I’ve spent many happy hours here renewing acquaintance with so many songs that I’d never thought I’d hear again! And enjoying the little stories you have behind each. And finally getting to know the full lyrics–thank you so much!
Incidentally, a Kaka fan just posted an interview of his on the occasion of RD’s death anniversary (Jan 4th). Here’s the link to it–it’s v. interesting.
