“Aarti” was a musical blockbuster. It had many great songs in it that are listened to by the fans of old songs even today. And every song is just as good as the other. Here is the first song from this movie that I am posting in this blog.
The song is picturised on Pradeep Kumar and Meena Kumari. Pradeep Kumar is a poet, and is perpetually broke as can be seen from his appearance. Meena Kumari has got acquainted with him. Meena Kumari asks him to drop her home. In case one thought that he will drop her home in a vehicle- if not on a car or a scooter/ motor cycle, then at least on a bicycle, with Meena Kumari seated on the horizontal bar between the handle and the bicycle rider, then no such luck. Pradeep Kumar is too broke to afford even a bicycle.
So, the two walk off on foot. I never knew that one could drop a lady to her home even on foot. Those were the days, when a girl can fall for such a broke guy. Sigh !
While on the way to her home, Meena Kumari listens to a song being sung on radio. The song goes like “kabhi to milegi kahin to milegi, bahaaron ki manzil raahen”. She takes it up from there and sings the song trying to cheer Pradeep Kumar up.
I have no idea how Pradeep Kumar reacts to it in the movie, but the song certainly has a magical quality about it. It is the kind of song that has a soothing effect on the listener. That way, this song can certainly have the effect of inspiring them to look forward to better days ahead of them.

I have not watched the movie, so I suppose I need to watch it to understand the philosophy of this movie and its main characters.

रोशन के बारे में एक और रोचक तथ्य है जो कम ही लोग जानते हैं और वो है अपनी ही पूर्व फ्लाप लेकिन बेहद सुंदर धुन का थोड़े फेर बदल के साथ पुनः उपयोग और हर बार उसका सुपर हिट होना ।
”आरती” में ही दो गीतों में उन्होने अपनी ही पुरानी धुनों का प्रयोग किया और दोनों ही गीत सुपर हिट रहे …. एक तो ये गीत ”आपने याद दिलाया… ”, जिसकी धुन उन्होने अपनी पुरानी १९६० की फिल्म ‘बाबर’ के सुधा मल्होत्रा के गाये गीत ‘पयाम इश्क मोहब्बत हमें पसंद नहीं … ‘ का पुनः उपयोग किया ।
दूसरा ये ही गीत ”कभी तो मिलेगी कहीं तो मिलेगी …” की मशहूर धुन अपनी ही पुरानी फिल्म ”घर घर में दीवाली” (१९५५) के लता के गाये गीत ”कहां खो गई है बहार आते आते … ” से ली ।
