Laxmikant Pyarelal used to get C grade movies viz mythological movies, stunt movies, religious movies etc, when they began their career as music directors. we have seen many music directors who remained confined to such movies throuout their careers without graduating to the mainstream movies.

“Waqt” (1965) was the movie that started the fad of lost and found movies which was so eagerly lapped up by Manmohan Desai one decade later. In this movie, there are three sons and the parents and they get separated from each other after an earthquake and reunite only in the last reel. So B R Chopra showed the way as far as lost and found movies were concerned.

This was a movie that I watched in matinee show by bunking my afternoon classes in the college. But then the songs of this movie were blaring all over the place and I could not help but get attacted towards the movie hall.

This song is written by Javed Akhtar and it is a beautifully written song, which has been sung so nicely by Jagjeet Singh and Chitra Singh under the music direction of Kuldeep Singh.

I have heard this song “jab bhi ye dil udaas hota hai” quite a few times in the past and I have liked it too. It is an ideal song when you feel sad, as the song says.

“Raja aur rank” (1968 ) is a movie that the present generation of movie watchers are not much familiar with, and that is for good reasons too. The movie was eminently forgettable with a flimsy story line. The only well known actor in this movie was Sanjeev Kumar, and he too was a newcomer to Bollywood.

“Guide” is a movie whose music was voted as containing the best music among all Bollywood movies, when an Indian magazine polled the industry insiders ( viz singers, lyricists and music directors). Coming from those who themselves create music for Bollywood movies, this was high praise indeed.
