Saawan ka maheena pawan kare sor

Posted on: February 23, 2009

This 1967 movie called “Milan” had its story based on reincarnation, where the same couple-Sunil Dutt and Nutan, would meet again and again in every reincarnation ( and expressed by the song “Hum tum yug yug se ye geet milan ke gaate rahenge”).

Out of all the songs that this reincarnation duo would sing, the song “Sawan ka maheena” really caught the imagination of the public, so much so that this song became the most popular song of the year.

Sung by Mukesh and Lata, this song was written by Anand Bakshi and the music direction was by Laxmikant Pyarelal. This song is a “boat” song, “stage” song, etc etc and it is one song that touched the heart strings of the public.

Song-Saawan ka maheena (Milan) (1967) Singers-Lata, Mukesh, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Lyrics

hmm hmm
saawan kaa maheenaa, pawan kare sor
saawan kaa maheenaa, pawan kare shor
hmm, pawan kare sor
pawan kare shor
are baba shor nahin sor, sor,
pawan kare sor
haan, jiyaraa re jhoome aise, jaise banmaa naache mor
saawan kaa maheenaa, pawan kare sor
jiyaraa re jhoome aise, jaise banmaa naache mor
saawan kaa maheenaa, pawan kare sor
jiyaraa re jhoome aise, jaise banmaa naache mor

raamaa gajab dhaaye, ye purwaiyaa
naiyaa sambhaalo kit, khoye ho khiwaiyaa
raamaa gajab dhaaye, ye purwaiyaa
naiyaa sambhaalo kit, khoye ho khiwaiyaa
hoy purvaiyaa ke aage, chale naa koyi zor
jiyaraa re jhoome aise, jaise banmaa naache mor
ho saawan kaa maheenaa, pawan kare sor
jiyaraa re jhoome aise, jaise banmaa naache mor

maujwaa kare kyaa jaane, hamko isaaraa
jaanaa kahaan hai poochhe, nadiyaa ki dhaaraa
maujwaa kare kyaa jaane, hamko isaaraa
jaanaa kahaan hai poochhe, nadiyaa ki dhaaraa
marzi hai tumhaari, le jaao jis or
jiyaraa re jhoome re aise re, jaise banmaa naache mor
ho saawan kaa maheenaa, pawan kare sor
jiyaraa re jhoome aise, jaise banmaa naache mor

jinke balam bairi, gaye hain bideswaa
aayi hai leke unke, pyaar kaa sandeswaa
jinke balam bairi, gaye hain bideswaa
aayi hai leke unke, pyaar kaa sandeswaa
kaari matwaari, ghataayen ghanghor
jiyaraa re jhoome aise, jaise banmaa naache mor
saawan kaa maheenaa, pawan kare sor
jiyaraa re jhoome aise, jaise banmaa naache mor
jiyaraa re jhoome re aise re, jaise banmaa naache mor

I love “Ram Kare” from this film especially. It made me howl with laughter in Bheja Fry when Vinay Pathak begins singing it to Rajat Kapoor—the look Rajat gives him is priceless.

All the songs are lovely, though.

This was a very nice movie. I saw it only recently.
Not everybody will like this type of movie but it has a certain softness about it.
And of course it has Nutan. At her best. 🙂
And I like Sunil Dutt too – so it was a wonderful combo.

Lovely songs. Like this one.
