I have listened to this song lots of times. But I was not aware till now which movie this song is from, and who figured in the picturisation.
All these days this song looked like a “Chalti Ka naam gaadi” kind of song to me. Now I realise that this song is in fact from “Kaala Paani”. S D Burman was the music director and Majrooh Sultanpuri has written the song. Asha Bhonsle and Rafi sang this duet.
The big bonus is the picturisation. The song is picturised on Dev Anand and Madhubala. I was not aware that the two had ever acted in a movie together. Now I know, and what a nice song for me to get informed of this fact.
The song is picturised as a “roothhna -manaanaa” song. Dev Anand is sulking and Madhubala tries to “manaao” him. But Dev Anand is not one to relent. When her attempts seemingly fall on deaf ears, she gets frustrated and tends to sulk herself. Realising it, Dev Anand softens his stance. This lovers’ tug of warlove finally ends in love all, as they say in tennis.
And this is in fact a very nice song to listen to even without watching its picturisation. This song has become a timeless classic because of the quality of its audio itself. Watching the song with its picturisation vastly enhances the experience of savouring the song. The picturisation is an absolute visual treat for the watchers.

Thank you for posting this beautiful song made even more beautiful by the bewitchingly beautiful Madhubala (I don’t mind repeating the word beautiful here).

This is one song I have seen and heard any number of times and am not ashamed to say that I would do it again. Both the one and only Madu and Dev have, by their expressions, made this song a classic!!

A perfect ‘ Roothna Manaana ‘ song with awesome picturization and lyrics akin to ‘ dekho qasam se ‘ , sung by same duo from ‘ Tumsa Nahin Dekha ‘ picturized on Shammi Kapoor Sahib and Amitaji.
These types have not been in Bollywood since long .

Superb song with superb picturisation !!!
I remember reading that Dev Anand held the record for “hero acting most number of heriones” till Rishi Kapoor beat his record.
