I have received a few farmaishes for the songs of “Lajwanti”.
Frankly speaking, I had not heard the name of the movie, what to speak of its songs. So it is the first time I have been listening to these songs.
Here is this lovely “lori” (lullaby) song from the movie “Lajwanti” (1958). Nargis is the mom singing a soothing “lori” to her daughter who looks less than one year old in the movie. While watching the song, I could not help thinking about how time flies. This picturisation took place some 53 years ago. That one year old girl must be 54 years old by now !
I also realised that S D Burman, an expert in composing great “maajhi” and “train” songs, was also an expert in creating “lori” songs. His “lori” song would have a soothing female voice singing a song that would becalm the nerves of the baby. The music would be minimal and contribute in helping create the right ambience for the kid to go to sleep peacefully. The other lori of S D Burman viz “Nanhi Kali sone chali” that came a year later employed the same principles as employed in this lori.

thanks for reminding me of this movie and its songs. if i remember right asha bhonsale was the only female singer in this movie.
there was another stage song picturied on “baby naaz” which had “chanda” in it.
and then there was “kuch din pehele ek taal main kamal kunj ke andar raheta tha” as also “koi aya dhadkan kehti hai”
see if you can find them for us

Geeta Dutt also sang a song in this movie( for a group dance performed by dancers viz Raagini, B V Saroja etc).

Thanks Atul for including this song. I guess the movie did not do well in spite of having people like Nargis and Balraj Sahni in the lead, but the songs are all great. Burman dada certainly knew how to do loris that were soothing. Thanks again.
