Ye nayan darey darey

Posted on: April 21, 2009

Hemant Kumar has sung some outstanding songs for Vishwajeet. That way, in my mind, Hemant Kumar-Vishwajeet combination of songs made for as potent a combination as say Rafi-Shammi Kapoor.

I have alreday posted a few songs from “Kohra” (1964) but there are more songs yet to be posted. Take this song for example. “Ye nayan dare dare” is right up there among the best songs of its genre. Kaifi Azmi’s lyrics are just what the music director ( Hemat Kumar) ordered. And the effect in nothing short of sheer magic. Nice lyrics, nice music, nice singing, and with picturisation to match. The song is picturised on Vishwajeet and Waheda Rahman, by the way.

Lyrics

ye nayan dare dare, ye jaam bhare bhare
zaraa peene do
kal ki kisko khabar, ik raat hoke nidar
mujhe jeene do
hmm hmm hmm

raat haseen ye chaand haseen
tu sabse haseen mere dilbar
raat haseen ye chaand haseen
tu sabse haseen mere dilbar
aur tujhse haseen
aur tujhse haseen teraa pyaar
tu jaane naa
ye nayan dare dare, ye jaam bhare bhare
zaraa peene do
ye nayan daredare
hmm hmm hmm hmm

pyaar me hai jeewan ki khushi
deti hai khushikayi gam bhi
pyaar me hai jeewan ki khushi
deti hai khushi kayi gam bhi
mai maan bhi loon,
mai maan bhi loon kabhi haar
tu maane naa
ye nayan dare dare, ye jaam bhare bhare
jara peene do
kal ki kisko khabar, ik raat hoke nidar
mujhe jeene do
hmm hmm hmm hmm
ye nayan dare dare

Everything you say about this song is true but I had never heard it before in my life, I am sure.
Sometimes song become truly “bhule”, don’t know why, as this had all the right ingredients to become a well-known romantic song.

Bawa and Squarecutatul,

You must be born after 70’s or 80’s and hence you did not here
this lovely song.

People born in 50’s and 60’s grew up with god simple music ,simple and beutiful lyrics and very well sung by singer like Hemant kumar, Mohd.rafi, Mukesh,Mannay Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, Great kishore Kumar, melodious Talat Mahmood……what a bunch of talented singers. Today you cannot remember who sang the song and after few days you forget the song and singer!!!

Harshad Bhatt sahab, most songs in this blog are from period upto 1960s. I was born in early 1960s myself. Most songs in this blog are indeed from the singers mentioned by you. And in addition, I have also posted some really obscure songs from that era sung by obscure singers from that era. When we say here that we do not recall certain songs from that era, we are being honest in admitting our ignorance, instead of pretending that we know everything about the music of that era. We keep learning new facts about the music of that era as we go along posting “new ” songs in this blog.
