Kinaare kinaare chale jaayenge

Posted on: August 16, 2009

“Vidya” (1948) was a movie released one year after India’s independence. Just about everyone associated with this movie was a newcomer.

By now, they are all regarded as legends, but Dev Anand (seen in this song alongwith Suraiyya) was just a raw newcomer, and S D Burman was also not the legend he was to become in coming decades.

Suraiyya was one person who was indeed a big star even in those days.

This song is a boat song that was sung by Suraiyya herself. This song shows Suraiyya and Dev Anand seated in a boat, and both holding paddles in their hands and moving away in water serenely.

The song is nice to listen to, and the music by S D Burman is typical of the music of 1940s. Considering the technological primitiveness under which songs had to be recorded, this sound recordists have done a brilliant job.

Y N Joshi is the lyricist of this song and he has written a very simple yet meaningful song .

Song-Kinaare kinaare chale jaayenge (Vidya) (1948) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-Y N Joshi, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics

kinaare kinaare chale jaayenge
jeewan ki naiyaa ko khete huye khete huye
chale jaayenge chale jaayenge
kinaare kinaare chale jaayenge

majboot hain dil ke armaan jo
parwaah nahin aaye toofaan jo
majboot hain dil ke armaan jo
parwaah nahin aaye toofaan jo
thapedon se uss ke bache jaayenge
jeewan ki naiyaa ko khete huye khete huye
chale jaayenge chale jaayenge
kinaare kinaare chale jaayenge

maanaa ke qismat se taqraar hai haan taqraar hai
khewat ke haathon mein patwaar hai
maanaa ke qismat se taqraar hai
khewat ke haathon mein patwaar hai
manzil pe apni badhe jaayenge
manzil pe apni badhe jaayenge
jeewan ki naiyaa ko khete huye khete huye
chale jaayenge chale jaayenge
kinaare-kinaare chale jaayenge

manzil pe pahunche to qismat hansi
le duniyaa ki khushiyaan mohabbat hansi
qismat hansi
mohabbat hansi
manzil pe pahunche to qismat hansi
le duniyaa ki khushiyaan mohabbat hansi
hansaayenge sabko hanse jaayenge
hansaayenge sabko hanse jaayenge
jeewan ki naiyaa ko khete huye khete huye
chale jaayenge chale jaayenge
kinaare-kinaare chale jaayenge
chale jaayenge chale jaayenge

Dev Anand was deeply in love with Suriyya before his marriage. Suriyya never maried after that.

It is a privilege for me to see a comment from the daughter of Y. N. Joshi. It will be nice of you if you are able to share some information about him, because not much is known about him to fans.

What a coincidence! I was looking at all the songs from the movie Vidya (1948) on the blog, and i come across this song which was posted on Aug 16th 2009. Today is Aug 16th 2013 :). To add to this coincidence even further, the 2 comments above are also on Aug 16th (2009 and 2010). Found it really intriguing. By the way, a really nice song this.
