“Daag” (1952) was a Mars and Movies Production. It was directed by Amiya Chaudhary. The movie had Dilip Kumar, Usha Kiran, Kanhaiyalal, Jawahar Kaul, Leela Misra, Krishnakant, Nimmi, Lalita Pawar, Chandrashekhar etc in it.

S D Burman was not only an outstanding music director, he had a unique singing voice too which he utilised very fruitfully. He would sing sparingly, but the few songs that he sang all went on to become immortal.

“Shabnam” (1964) was a movie where Mehmood was in lead role opposite Vyjyanti Mala. I have no idea how the movie fared, but the songs of this movie were outstanding, as I have discovered.

Aaya tumpe dil aayaa kyaa karen

In late 1950s, party songs based on western music and accompanied by a dance by a female had become a rage in Bollywood movies. “Mera Naam chin Chin Choo” from “Howrah Bridge” (1958) is a good example of such a song. This song was sung by Geeta Dutt and it was picturised on Helen.

C Ramchandra was one of the earlier pioneers of Bollywood movie music. He was one of the first music directors to make the most of the voice of Lata. In fact, Lata-C Ramchandra compositions are comparable to Lata-Madan mohan compositions, which came later.
