Dhalti jaaye raat kahle dil ki baat

I recall this song from my younger days. This has to be the ultimate chaayaageet song. I recall listening to this song emanating from radios late at night after 10 PM and wondering why they had to play such boring songs at that time. And now, when I stumbled upon this song again, I felt like I had discovered a great treasure.
I had no clue about the details of this song. Now I know that this song is from “Razia Sultana” (1961), not to be confused with “Razia Sultan” of 1983.
In “Razia Sultana” (1961), Nirupa Roy plays the title role and Jairaj co stars. This song is picturised on them, though they just listen to it. This song is being sung by some others in moonlit night, and this song is causing its intended effects on Nirupa Ray and Jairaj.
This song is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle and it is in fact so magical that I must call it a “mesmerising” song. The song is written by Anand Bakshi and this must be one of his earlier songs. The music which causes such an impression in the minds of the listeners even to this date is composed by Lachchiram.
It is a gem of a song , really.

If liking songs of the past is acquiring the sense of music then yes, we now have acquired this taste. 🙂 And what a lovely chaayageet song this is. And it evokes such strong nostalgia too.

This song was picturised on Harbanslal pape, Meena Parel, in Shrikant Bombay studio in Chembur 1960.

Indeed the ultimate chhayageet song, I remember this very well too.
And having the same emotions as you.
But now when I listen to it, I am really able to appreciate the song.
I would like to think that we have now acquired a sense of music. 🙂
