Ham aapki aankhon mein is dil ko basaa den to

on:It is difficult to associate Guru Dutt with anything but a sad song, that too in a movie like “Pyyasa”. But it is a fact that he does not just sing melancholic songs in this movie. He sings romantic songs as well, difficult though it may be to believe.
Here is this lovely romantic duet from “Pyaasa”. What lovely lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi, and how wonderfully it is composed by S D Burman. It is sung beautifully by Rafi and Geeta Dutt.
I have heard this song in the past, but I was not aware that this song was from “Pyaasa”. It is a pleasant surprise to find that it is from this movie.Guru Dutt figures in the picturisation alongwith Mala Sinha. And the picturisation is lovely too.
It is a sweet song from a memorable ( if tragic) movie.
Song-Ham aapki aankhon mein is dil ko basaa den to (Pyaasa) (1957) Singers- Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-S D Burman
Lyrics
ham aap ki aankhon mein, is dil ko basaa den to
ham moond ke palkon ko, is dil ko sazaa den to
ham aap ki aankhon mein, is dil ko basaa den to
ham moond ke palkon ko, is dil ko sazaa den to
ham aap ki aankhon mein, is dil ko basaa den to
in zulfon mein goonthenge, ham phool muhabbat ke
zulfon ko jhatak kar ham, ye phool giraa den to
in zulfon mein goonthenge, ham phool muhabbat ke
zulfon ko jhatak kar ham, ye phool giraa den to
ham aap ki aankhon mein, is dil ko basaa den to
aahahaha hahaha
hmm hmm hmm
aa ha ha hahaha
hmm hmm
ham aapko khwaabon mein, laa laa ke sataayenge
ham aap ki aankhon se, neenden hi udaa den to
ham aapko khwaabon mein, laa laa ke sataayenge
ham aap ki aankhon se, neenden hi udaa den to
ham aap ki aankhon mein, is dil ko basaa den to
ham aapke kadmon par, gir jaayenge gash khaa kar
is par bhi na ham apne, aanchal ki hawaa den to
ham aapke kadmon par, gir jaayenge gash khaa kar
is par bhi na ham apne, aanchal ki hawaa den to
ham aap ki aankhon mein, is dil ko basaa den to
ham moond ke palkon ko, is dil ko sazaa den to
ham aap ki aankhon mein, is dil ko basaa den to

Its a dream sequence in the film.. and it was put in the film purely for commercial reasons..
anyhow, the song is just toooooo lovely to describe in words..
When we talk about Golden classic onscreen pairs setting screen on fire.. the first names are of Raj – Nargis…
Similarly, the first singing pair to put a microphone on fire (:P) has to be Geeta-Rafi.. their voices sound like made for each other!!!

This song is one of my all time favorites, guaranteed to bring a smile to my face at any time. Both their voices are so smooth and the picturization fits the song so well. Wonderful!
