I have posted several “lullabies” (lori) in this blog. This song too is a lori, but with a major difference from the normal lallabies.
The infant may be like any other kid, but his parents are different from normal parents. His father is a “daaku” and a fugitive from the law. His wife and kid too stay with him and as such they lead a tough and insecure life, forever on the run from law. How does a woman, who is like any other mother, feel about her situation. Her kid deserves to have a childhood like any other child, but the sins of her parents cast their shadow over the kid’s life. It is obvious that the kid cannot hope to have a normal happy childhood.
The pain that the mother feels about the situation is expressed superbly in this lori written by Sahir Ludhianvi and sung by Lata. Jaidev is the music director.
This is a song that is bound to move anyone who listens to it. It must be one the most heart rending songs composed in Bollywood. And it is picturised extremely effectively on Waheeda Rehman, Sunil Dutt and others.
I listened to this song for the first time only just now. What a song !

Should it be
mujh si maaon ki muhabbat kaa koyi mol nahin…
1st line of 1st stanza-
mere munne mere gulzaar ke nanhe paudhe
(gulzaar instead of guldaan)
